I have had to clean out the top of my stove where the flue comes out just above the two downspouts. it seems as though I get a lot of fly ash build up in this area. I have to clean this about every three weeks. I found this out by accident when one night he carbon monoxide detectors went off. It ends up chocking itself. Is this normal?

You may want to post some pics of your stove and all parts of your chimney so that the best advice is given. Flyash will build up in any horizontal runs and need an occasional cleaning throughout the heating season. This will in turn reduce draft and may even result in CO backing up if the draft drops enough. Every three weeks seems to be a little excessive though.

Ok, thanks for the response. I found quite a few people do a quick clean every month.
