Cost of EFM compared to other boilers.

Hi guys,

In all of my research it seems like the EFM boiler is noticeably more expensive than the other boiler manufacturer's out there. From another post it seems like a new EFM 520 is ~$12k.

Is there a reason why it is more expensive? I have one theory, but I wanted to let the forum open up first.

I'm not trying to start a riot, I'm simply looking for some answers for my simple mind.

Well the Harman and the Keystokers do not have augers so you can knock them right off the list if more convenience is important.

The EFM's are ASME stamped. I know the Keystoker's are not and I don't know what the status of of the Harman's are. AHS offers a boiler with the ASME stamp but it's something like $2K more than one withput it and is right in line with the EFM if I'm not mistaken... the only difference being the stamp. Without the stamp it would be significantly cheaper but I'm pretty sure EFM does not offer any without it.

This stamp is required for commercial installations and there was some discussion during the summer where I beleive it was Mass that required it for home installations.

All Axeman Andersons are H stamped also.

Wow, that is a bunch o' money. How come I thought they were around 9 grand? I think the AA and AHS are around 7 grand now. I'll venture a guess that the EFM cost more because they weigh more. Steel ain't cheap!

The 12K is someone's retail price. That's why it pays to shop around. In the FAQ for efm there are names of dealers who we sell through if you want to install yourself and can save you $$$

Freedy you might want to look at the weight of all of these units EFM are not the heaviest .
EFM has more Cast & Machined Parts then the other's and they have a Full sealed base not a open base like AA AHS
EFM 520 New are about The same Price as a AA260 The AA130 are about 1K less
A good price for a new EFM DF-520 with out a Oil kit can be bought alot less then 12K It depends on what dealer you buy from .

I think EFM is a good value; you'll probably never need to buy another new one, and you'll probably go 15-20 years before it needs a new part. Your kids can sell it for $3000 when you are gone. Spend $10k on a car and see how long it lasts. There are guys that refurbish them too and sell them for less than half of new.
