The reason barrels are sky high is the brewers making bourbon ale, the brewery right up the street from me does that. It created a markey for them that did not exist before.

Bourbon Ale sucks by the way.

Stephen try some AAA ( Ancient Ancient Age) It is 10 years old and the same whiskey as Blantons ist very good, comes from the same distillery as Buffalo Trace.

Cheers

I've got hooked on bourbon in the last year or so. Buffalo Trace is good, Maker's Mark is OK but overpriced (and overhyped), I didn't care for Bulleit but I think it's more personal taste there, Jim Beam Black is quite good, and Old Grand Dad 114 is wonderful on a cold night. There are several others in my lineup to try and fortunately I have a store that has a good selection at great prices close by.

I just drink mine neat, either in a small tumbler or brandy snifter (yes, brandy snifter - it's "accepted" amongst the "bourbon snobs"). It really allows the full experience of it.

I took some Blanton's single barrel bourbon to hunting camp back in November, and it was fantastic! It is expensive but since most of the guys at my camp are now non-residents here in PA I only see them for opening day of buck season. I guess I'm saying it was a special occasion.

I did pick up some Woodford on your good recomendation. Good stuff. My son gave me a bottle of Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage aged 10 years. He didn't tell me what the price was and I'm no expert, but this stuff is really arromatic and just as tastey and maby more so. Took me three times trying before I sipped it because it just smelles so good. It's sold up this way (NJ/PA) at a big box store, Burbon Street Wine & Spirits. If you see some, give it a try. By my developing burbon taste buds, it's worth wile trying. I'd share some with you but you're just too far away ;)

Hope y'all staying warm, inside and out.

Edit - ment this as a pm but randomized it after I realized I posted.

Has anyone ever tried Four Roses Bourbon? I bought a bottle at the PA state store for $11.99. It is 80 proof and has a yellow label. This is one of the items the state has on clearance sale. The price is cut about $6 per bottle and when they sell out they will no longer sell it. I was going to get Old Grand-Dad 80 proof but this was cheaper. The reason for buying is to add a splash to my homemade baked beans. Last time I used Old Grand-Dad 114 because that was all I had but it is too pricy to just cook all that alcohol away

The last batch of beans turned out good but I’m still tweaking the recipe. The after effect was awesome with a sweet, fruity boquet.

Its OK for cooking, but I wouldn't drink it on a bet, yuck!

The post should be renamed Favorite Bourbon. Personally I like Buffalo Trace and Makers Mark, but most of you guys are drinking some good stuff. It is only Bourbons for me, but will not drink Jim Beam and detest JD with its charcoal filter.

If your looking for something cheap and good Evan Williams is always a solid choice. This summer I am perfecting my Apple pie recipe.. :D

Got a new fav - Buffalo Trace. It's just as smooth as Jamison, with a beautiful aftertaste.

I have tried the Chattanooga Whiskey called 1816, both Reserve and Cask. Haven't had much the last few years but I thought it was just fine straight, or neat.
