How long has your fire been going for since last relight?

PostBy: captcaper On: Wed Feb 18, 2009 8:24 am

I last started mine Nov. 1st and has been going strong since. It still shakes nicely and has an even fire all threw it. I notice the colder it is the nicer it shakes without wanting to jam. I haven't jammed it since Nov.
It was 3 below this morning and it was going strong. I burnt 3 1/2 tons already. about 1 to 2 bags a day (40lbs. Blascheck) depending on temps of course. The coldest we got was 23 below 0 F. We had about 2 months below 32 F were it didn't get above 32F.
I almost lost it when I went away for 2 days. But before I left I got it going good then poked and shook the heck out of it to get rid of all the ash and just have coal in it. Then I piled it on and turned the Manual Damper down and shut the air intake down low of course. When I came back there was a section still going. Opened up the air and damper and it came back from there...

Mine has only gone out once since October & that was due to jamming...not intentional. Since I don't need to clean fly ash from my vent pip;es until Spring each year, I never shut my stove down & still manage to keep the ash cleaned out as it's running.

In the house, since I first lit the stove in fall. In the shop, I start it quite often. Only when I'm going to work out there.

I burned from Nov to mid January without a relight, shutdown to clean out the firebox and remove flyash from the stovepipe. I've been burning steadily since then.

Early Dec (the day I installed it) until mid-January when I went out of town. Relit the evening I came home and it's been burning since. I have a tee at the elbow so I don't even let the stove go out for cleaning the pipes. I just make sure I have a window or two open to vent the CO and then I work fast.

Stoves been burning since sometime in November. one week after I purchased the Hitzer insert, I decided to pull the stove and run a full stack pipe with cap for a good draft , and it's been running ever since.
