I find the sound of the clinking quite reassuring, as already stated the sound of an oil or gas fired boiler is way more irritating!

mr1precision don't forget to check the alignment of the fan shaft in the plate opening and make sure the rubber mounts are not being pulled one way or the other by the adjustment of the brackets. There is a sweet spot for adjusting everything that allows for smooth operation and as you already noted slightly less noise. I like your idea of dampening the noise from the coal tube, think I might do a little science project with that to see what is most effective.

Billw the AA is slightly noisier depending on several factors such as the condition of the parts (nothing worn etc), overall I would say the AA is like half again as noisy but in no way objectionable unless you are expecting silence. You can come over and listen to mine any time you are in the area. :)

I have to say that the Axeman-Anderson Anthratube has impressed me the most, out of all the automatic coal stokers made. I don't own one yet, but it is definitely Number ONE, on my wish list. I've found the people at Axeman-Anderson, especially the gentleman that I talked to there about the Anthratube, to be very friendly and helpful. Axeman-Anderson sent me an original January 1953 copy, TESTS OF THE ANTHRATUBE, by the Bureau of Mines. All I have to say is WOW!!!!! After reading that report, I got to save my pennies to get one of these Anthratubes.

With all of the wonderful owners of AA's on this forum, I wonder why Axeman-Anderson isn't part of the manufactures that belong to this Anthracite and Bituminous Coal Forum? Maybe because their product speaks for itself? Anyway, one day I'll own one too! :) DOUG

I think I can answer that. Before I bought my AA I spoke with Pete Anderson. I was asking him about the website, about why there isn't an accurate photo of the AA. The pictures show it with the cover, not as it really comes. He said. more or less, (this is not a quote) "We had someone do the website for us. It isn't the best website on Earth, but at least we're on the web. Computers aren't a big part of our life".

I transcribed the Bureau of Mines Report to electronic form and posted it to this forum. See: Bureau of Mines Report 4936 Axeman-Andersen Anthratube Boiler

Yes Yanche, That's it!!! :)

This report is timeless! After reading that report, if you are not impressed with the AA, I don't know what will. Thanks for leading us to your well done computer scan and post of the AA 130. :) DOUG
