Wait a minute!!...There is life beyond coal stoves?? (why wasn't I told about this!)

I thought that's why we were all HERE!!! :D

I guess the Mark series is the "winner, winner chicken dinner" here. I replaced one set of bricks, the clamp that holds them and the door gaskets in the 7 years I've owned my Mk I. It's been through two owners and two houses and I love it. I'm heating 1900 sq ft to 70+ degrees with the smallest stove Harman makes. If I tend it twice a day, I'm all set. Three times if my wife tends it. ;)

Thanks for the invite but NJ to RI is a bit far for dinner. Although I did take her to Canada for lunch once...:D

And ironically, she made Mandarin Chicken for dinner. Ummm um. :D

So, did you use plastic safety glasses or the "el cheapo" polycarbonate safety glasses whilst performing these"carbide" drilling repairs?

Is that a "nuke" plant or just a 1200 pound steam plant series glasses? You got me on that one.

It is not about feelings, but factual disclosure. I do not have my identity confused with my stove, car or house. I have a life beyond mundane coal stoves.

I don't have a life beyond my coal stove except maybe my wood stove.
My Hitzer was quite offended at being called mundane (I have always told him that he is very special). :gee:

To JLF53
My degree in Engineering included much study in thermodynamics, so ,yes one could say I know a little of heat transfer to fingertips of the unwary.

Your extensive problems with your Harmon sound like a classic case of overfiring...it is okay to tell everyone that you had the whole thing glowing
orange and smoking hot.
Maybe trade in the Kitchenaide, the Mercury and the Maytag for an easy to use, safe, gas furnace? Leave the hot, smoky, dangerous things to people
who know not to touch things whilst still hot! toothy

Everyone is an arm chair quarter back. My 2 cents, this stove was over fired.
ash door got left open or the like.
Also, Harman doesn't make the glass. It's Robax ceramic good to 1,400 degrees.

Yeah...The TLC has brass door fitting that a short wooden handle screws into. I have had no problem with mine but my daughter's husband managed to strip the machine screw on the end of theirs. It doesn't get hot as long as you have it vertical (not in front of the window) when latched. If it ever breaks I could probably jury-rig a better replacement for under $2.00 worth of parts from Home Depot.
I have a few issues with my stove but probably considered normal or at least apply to this stove. First of all, I keep my stove pipe temp usually at 200 and when it was below o I reached 250 so my door bars haven't warped yet but my firebricks are cracking. My door knob fell off in my hand last week. My blower seems to be making a different kind of noise than when new. I usually leave it at a low setting and this is the first year with this new stove. The inside the ash door lip builds with ash but I clean tyhe ash from it before shakedown. I have dumped a fire by opening the grate handle too much. Ash falls on both sides of the ash pan and needs to be cleaned out . I found my stove runs best and is easiest to reload if I shake down and poke every 10-12 hrs which is great with me. I burned wood and had alot more work. All and all I am happy with this stove.
