Better deal if I shop around?

Better deal if I shop around?

PostBy: oros35 On: Fri Feb 20, 2009 11:28 am

So I'm looking into buying a Hitzer 30-95 and a SS manufacured chimney. Are the prices pretty consistant between dealers? Like does it pay to shop around? There is a dealer about 10 miles from my house, Nice for convienience but I wouldn't mind traveling if I could save a couple hundred.

I'm just west of Pittsburgh by the way if that makes any difference.

Sometimes, but some stoves are in short supply. most are probably pretty close in price, but may not hurt to call around.

Shop around for the best package!
The cheapest price may not get the best quality of labor!
If there are no dealers close by you can go direct to Hitzer but then you have to do the stove install.
I would price shop 3 ways.
Just stove.
Just chimney.
Stove and chimney as a package.

Being as it is so late in the heating season, I personally would be looking for a good deal on a used stove rather than a new one. I am still of the school of thought that there will be a great buyers' market for used stoves come spring from all the panic buying that took place last fall. Lots of folks are going to be weighing the work involved vs the lower cost of oil and end up selling in favor of laziness.

I've been keeping an eye out for used ones. I probably won't buy one for at least a month or 2 unless I come across a good deal. Gotta wait till the weather breaks some. I'm gonna dig out a portion of my basement wall, install a door that will give me easy access to the game room I'm gonna put the stove in. Also make it easy to put the chimney anywhere along the wall I just dug out.

Take a trip over to Middlefield Oh. A amish guy sell's Hitzer's and Harmons. He might be a little cheaper. They are on RedWings! I can get you his name if you want.

A lot of times, a dealer will sell the floor model (demonstrater) come spring. Check and see if it's been spoken for.

oros35 --- I bought both of our Hitzer's from Andy @ Buck Stoves in Monaca, Pa. Installed the 354 myself - but had them
wrestle the 503 down the steps to its new home. I felt the price was fair (10-15%?) off list and service was just fine. I
don't know where you are in Butler Co. but they had nearly the full selection to view and did have some demo's. If you want to do some scrambling to save dollars, I later met a chimney sweep/installer who did insurance work, each time a fire was
reported he was instructed to remove what was (his words) "a perfectly good but poorly installed stove" Luck, baldeagle

That's how I ended up with my Harmon. I got a great price and it was actually just around the corner in Manassas, VA. Boy, did I luck into that! I had done my homework and was looking for a Harmon but to find one close by and on sale was a true blessing. Lisa

Make sure the stainless pipe you buy is ALL stainless. Some have galvanized steel connector/end pieces. They do rust out. :!:
