Just be sure you understand the amount of coal one of these uses, coal is 12-13K BTU per lb and with an efficiency of say 75% you'll get say ~ 10K btu per lb, from there you can do the math as far as keeping a fire going and remember it does not shut off when it's not commanding heat. Recent posts on here (read "Handfed got Easier when") suggests one of these type furnaces likes a round heaped coal fire, not a thin layer of coal, so be ready to pour some good amounts of coal in. People on here can help you in that regard.

Me, if I wanted to heat a whole house with existing ducts, etc it would be something like a LL Hyfire Stoker with hood , though there are people on here that know a lot more than me on central heat.

Have fun,

Thanks for your input.I figured it would use a lot of coal to run but I also have a unlimted amount of wood available and I had to move on the unit, because of what I thought was a good price $1200.00,6years old, only used 3.

For that price with wood, good move.
