Well my dear friend of many years just passed away. I came in the room to use the computer and went to lovingly caress it as usual and zzzzzzzzzzzzt. I accidentally sent thousands of volts of static electricity through my poor friend. The results were evident immediately as it was completely unresponsive. Farewell dear friend.

Fortunately I have backup mouse, certainly glad it was just the mouse. Imagine my glee as I rebooted and caressed my new friend only to find it was just as responsive as my old one. Off to the store tomorrow though as this one has ball and I'm not going back to cleaning the damn thing weekly.

Richard, move into the new century.... get a touch pad. :D
All my computers have them, even the desktop models with the external keyboards, have the touchpad built into the keyboards.
The reason I use them is cuz I'm left-handed. The mice were all built right-handed (isn't that discrimination???? )

They don't make left handed mouses? You're kidding right?

Anyhow I used the touch pads and don't like them. It's like trying to use the keyboard for a game designed for joystick.

Those rollerballs are nice. My wife got a tiny one that she slips onto one finger, almost like a one-fingered glove. (NO, not THAT finger! :) )

But she also likes the "Red Nipple" mouse controler, on her T61.

i highly recommend the Logitech Mx518. It's a "gaming" mouse, but the programmable thumb buttons are excellent for going back and forward on the innaweb. I like mine at home so much that I bought one for work. The thumb buttons on the work mouse are 2 very common commands in Autocad.

Granted a lot of mice these days have programmable thumb buttons.

I'm left-handed, but use my right hand for the mouse. Certain things I do left-handed (eating, brushing teeth, writing), other things right handed (shooting, sports, etc.). The right handed mouse disappeared a while ago, I think. Most now (like my Logitech wireless) are shaped the same on both sides.

*censored*, I thought you were talking about catching a rodent. I get those little SOB's in our garage every couple of years. Glad to hear the static didn't zap your computer.
Did I ever tell you the time I caught that left handed mouse swinging a right handed hammer? He tried to smash my toe. :)

I use a Logitech cordless optical TrackMan. It's a roller ball type. No wires, sit back an click.
Extra programmable buttons. 8 buttons ,one ball. Very easy to use to scroll or forward and
back page.
