Could anyone send me a PM on a good source for quality rice anthracite as I think I got taken on my first delivery of 4 ton. I live just outside of Wilkes-Barre, PA. Been burning a week now with a Harman VF-3000 and I have a lot of unburned coal in my ash bucket. Draft on my Dwyer manometer is mostly .05 to .06 sometimes it is around .04. The problem may be that I think the coal I got is more buckwheat than rice according to the sizing chart in the Harman manual. The supplier I got the coal from was bragging that his coal would have a low ash content around 6% he claimed but I cannot get it to burn most of it. I have tried setting the fire to max. stoke and set the idle timer to 4 minutes on and 12 minutes off to try to get more of a complete burn with no luck. It is either due to the wrong size coal or maybe I got sold a bad batch. It was advertised as "Hazelton deep mined". So any suggestions ( and I will get a test batch first this time ) for a good supplier of rice delivered and what you pay would be most appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Do a search on Unburnt Coal, you will always have a certain amount, sometimes its NOT coal but other Junk in the coal that doesn't burn, but looks like coal.

you say you have your stoker set to max stroke, double check at a few different times in the burn cycle to make sure she isn't pushing good coal right off the end, too

Had the same issue on mine when I fist got it setup. My temp solution which I'm still using.... is to take a 4" dryer vent Tube and attach it to the Fan intake. At the end of the 4" Dryer vent tube place a duct assit fan on it. Run the assit fan 24/7. When combusion fan kicks on it supplies air as normal and when it enters idile mode the assist fan keep a small blue flame on the coal so they do not go out. Works good for me.

I think others are running 2 power feeds to the main fan one at a reduced speed and the other full. So when controls kicks of the Fan, it stays running at the reduced speed. Just never got around to doing this way. You know what they say don't fix what isn't broke...

Do you have a barometric damper?

I'm not familiar with how your Harman works, so listen to others for tips, but, if it comes a point that you really think it's the coal, go buy 4 or 5 bags of Blaschack from your neighborhood hardware store and try it. If it burns about the same...it's not the coal!
