John Adams once said, “Democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts and murders itself. There was never a democracy that did not commit suicide.”

This is one of my favorites (regardless of the controversy about who actually said it):
A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the Public Treasury. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the Public Treasury with a result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy always followed by dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through the following sequence:

From Bondage to Spiritual Faith
From Spiritual Faith to Great Courage
From Courage to Liberty
From Liberty to Abundance
From Abundance to Selfishness
From Selfishness to Complacency
From Complacency to Apathy
From Apathy to Dependency
From Dependency back into Bondage

If he was forced into a stimulus package my guess is he would not allow the temporary tax cuts on the wealthy to lapse, kept the cost of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars off budget so his budget deficit would look significantly less than it actually is, gave the second half of the bank bailout money with no strings attached and not set a date to start withdrawing troops from Iraq.

I'm not an Obama basher like the OP mentioned by I'll agree with all of Bill's guesses & add a few:

1. He would not have renounced torture or restricted all U.S. personnel to interrogation techniques approved in the US Army filed manual.
2. Would not have extended unemployment benefits
3. Would not have instituted tax cuts for most of the middle class
4. Would not have proposed middle class tax credits for college tuition, home energy savings repairs & state auto excise & sales tax payment s.
5. Would not have replaced Condee Rice as Sec of State, Paulson at Treasury, Mukasi at Justice

It's Friday and I'm too tired to respond fully here now, BUT, you could not be more wrong with your #1 point. McCain was a staunch denouncer of torture. He was at odds with the Bush adminsistration over this issue constantly. Not sure why you think differenty.

Haven't had time to read the whole article Terry but it appears that Sen. McCain's position on torture "Evolved" during the campaign so as not to buck Bush too much.

Time Magazine
Has McCain Flip-Flopped on Torture?
But on this latest piece of legislation, which arose during the heat of the primary campaign and may surface again later this month, McCain sided with Bush in opposing a further restriction of CIA techniques.

http://www.ask.com/bar?q=McCain%27s+views+on+torture&page=1&qsrc=0&zoom=&ab=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fmarcambinder.theatlantic.com%2Farchives%2F2008%2F04%2Fmccain_moves_on_torture.php
This link is broken, either the page no longer exists or there is some other issue like a typo.

As I said, the article appears a bit ambiguous & I haven't read the whole thing yet. I have heard conflicting stories though & I make no claim of knowing the absolute proof. Still, I feel that if he had been elected President, he would not have felt much pressure to end questionable CIA interrogation techniques, (certainly this early anyway) which is why I put that in my list.
I'm open to info & would be willing to remove that notation if you can provide something.

He would have continued to mumble incoherently like he did in the debates. But we would all be praying for his health, every time we saw Sarah wink. And we'd be wondering what color pit bull she and the first dude would buy for the illegitimate grandchildren. My God, to think that woman could have been VP! My blood runs cold!

What would McCain have done differently................

Seeing that I live in MA -- a state dictated by Democrats for decades -- that question doesn't really matter. Living here, you can count on TAXES, TAXES, TAXES, CORRUPTION, then, just when you think your getting ahead, MORE GOD DAMN TAXES!!!!!!!!! :wtf: :bang:

If Democrats are so great, then why does this state SUCK so bad to live in?? Actually, it's great for wealthy elitist Democrats living in their 4,000 sq.ft. colonials on .0007 acres of land all around Boston..... They seem to have all the brilliant "fixes" for all of us living in the "uncouth & un-sophisticated" woods. Think any of these *censored* have ever held a 12 gauge? Seen an ATV in person? HA!! Like a gun rack in a frigging eurotrash BMW!!

This place is just a smaller version of the Obama administration.........take the hard working populations' income & hand it to DEADBEAT LOSERS who leach off the public assistance that Dems deal out like crack to ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS, et al... :?: Then take another bite of their income for useless environmental bullshit, that costs everyone money & makes America weak, all to appease some leftover Woodstock attendees that never came down from that BROWN ACID --- DIDN'T THAT NICE MAN TELL YOU THE BROWN ACID WAS BAD???????????????????? Peace & love is a nice fantasy when your 18 & blasted out of your gourd, but then someday, you have to face REALITY. :bop: The sad part is, that brown acid spread like herpes & turned America into WEEEE THE SHEEEEPLE!

George Washington's first words, if he were to rise from the grave to check on his country, would be: WHAT A BUNCH OF PUSSIES!! WHAT THE F**** HAPPENED?!?!??!!!

Wow dude, you need to switch to decafe. :D You would be surprised how many people here in the Commonwealth are
armed to the teeth and proficient with fire arms. As far as Democrats, there are many, but that is a misnomer. Not all
Democrats are liberal. As far as being unhappy here, you could always ......move. Brown acid? Recreational drug use seems to be a parenting issue more than anything else. What happened is those parents were asleep at the wheel. NH
will welcome you to live free or die.... , living off the land and popping rounds off till your ears ring....that is living. Do not worry about taxes, because you will not have a job. Woodstock kids have already cashed out, and are retired, or soon
will be. Good time not to have a job, because the cost of retiring that drug slurping, 4000 s.f. colonial living, lexus driving
generation will be huge, and would just take your pay check anyway, so why bother? Live free or Die, the Granite state
is calling!
