You can help to keep spam posts and inappropriate material off the forum by using the report feature. On each post next to the quote button is icon with a ! , By using this you will activate many features to alert all moderators to the post in question, among them it becomes highlighted.

Forgot to mention you can use this button for any type problem, double posts, posted in the wrong forum. For example sometimes there might be a malfunction and you'll get a double post. You can use the report button to report yourself.

Just a reminder as I get the occasional PM about spam posts and other concerns. Use the report button as it's more efficient and will highlight the problem topic for all moderators.

Just bumping this and want to give a few tips on spotting spammers.

If there is links within their first few posts please report it as it is most likely spam. This would be especially true if they format text with a link within a sentence as I've done here. Also note they will frequently use links in signatures which is another indicator. If the post is not within the main topic here which is coal that is another indicator.

These by themselves don't necessarily mean it's a spammer. Please don't take it upon yourself to label a post spam, instead report it.

You probably already know this Richard, but just a thought. On another forum I was a member of, when a new member makes a post, the first three posts they make are held until they are reviewed by a moderator to ensure that they are not spam. After that they will be posted as usual. I'm not sure if you have enough problems with spam to go through that or not though.

I don't like that feature because people may not return after posting. You have to be careful and not make it too hard for real users who want to use the service. There's other issues with it as well that we've noticed on phpBB.com such as spammers posting more legitimate sounding posts.

Just an update, if there is someone that posts a massive amount of spam post you don't have to report it.
