Is it me, or does the DVC seen to run more efficiently with the room temp fan set the to high position? I always keep my feed rate at one. Lately, however, I have set my room temp control to the high position. That, in turn, has allowed me to turn my thermostat down. Is it my imagination, or am I really using less coal setting my room temp to high?

Yep, I agree: I always run mine on "Stove Temp", but yes, I always use the Stove Temp "High" setting. Even is I am just running at Temp of '1'. I always leave feedrate at '1' as well, no matter what Stove Temp setting I choose.

So basically running on either stove temp low or room temp low just wastes coal? Also, how thick are your ashes on the burn grate? I'd say mine are ~ 3 inches. Does that seem right?

Kevin, I would say that depends on what your burning, and how hot you burn.
I am burning Blaschack, rice of course, and at the temp setting between 1 and 5, I do get a 3 inch thick layer of ash rolling off, into ash pan. Real crunchy stuff, lots of bone, with white ash.I have never burned continuously at a setting between 5 and 7, It just hasn't been cold enough for that much heat.

 Run a test.... a full hopper of rice with Temp setting at Low, then another full hopper with Temp setting at High. I haven't tried that. Let us know how it goes.

Will do. Its supposed to be 2 degrees here tonight. I'll try it when I know the temps are going to be relatively steady for a few days.
