How about one for identifying duplicate photo files even if they don't have the same name? I had "Reasonable NoClone" but I don't think the free version was all that good and I don't want to buy something I hopefully only need once.

I don't have any suggestions but if you a do check for "CRC" follwed by terms like checker or comapre you should be able to dig something up.

Ever wonder what's taking up so much space on your hard drive? Sure, you can search all over your drives to find it, or you use this:

<LINK REMOVED>

I like it for two reasons:
(1) it sounds like windowstats, and that still cracks me up.
(2) it makes it really easy to find stuff that maybe you forgot about (or didn't realize was there - for instance, how much space does you inbox take up?) and get rid of it. Click on any of the "blobs" in the bottom pane and it will show you what the directory and files are. I found and removed a lot of crap with this program.

I've used this one for quite a while. I wanted an alternative to Windows' quick launch bar, and I like the way the Mac OS's launch bar looks.

There's a short video that shows it to you. What they don't show is how customizable it is. I have mine hidden on the left side of the screen so that it pops out only when I mouseover it. It's very slick.

That domain is dead, you should get a 404 error or page not found, something is redirecting your browser. Could be a lot of things but likely your ISP.

Try this link:

Sorry, guys, but I posted that one near the end of 2009. You can still get the program, and it's still very cool:

I recently found a new music player/library program to replace Winamp. Somewhat similar in style, but simpler in design and use.
http://getmusicbee.com/

VLC Player seems to be the reigning champ in media players, then Pot Player came along. Similar in many ways, but in my experience uses 75% less memory when running.

I'm finding loads of really good, free, safe programs here:

I used Winmerge when I changed out our edge ASA 5530 firewalls this summer. 300+ rules plus ISAKMP, IPSEC, CRYPTO and more crap in there....what a Godsend!

ZTreeWin is a fast and flexible text-mode file/directory manager for all versions of Windows.

http://www.ztree.com/html/ztreewin.htm

A modern update of the DOS xtree. Much more capable and very, very useful for maintaining your files in an organized manner. It's nag-wear so after 31 days it will nag you to buy a copy. It's will still fully work after 31 days. Highly recommended.
