I've owned a Mark II for 5 years, it's my 2nd coal stove, been burning since '93. You can burn wood in any coal stove. I burn wood early fall/late spring easier to start for unexpected cold snap or just to take the chill off. Always start my coal with a wood fire. Only once for the long haul, hopefully. Do have to replace the fire brick this year, a little too agressive throwing the chunks in, but the cracks aren't any bigger than the spaces between bricks, so OK. Clean the chimney about every 3 years, but I only burn maple/oak, maybe a little elm that fell in, never pine except kindling scraps.
I love my Mark II, she kept me warm all winter (mine's a she).
