So what's the BFD now?

Well that is in the past, Tuesday the Russian President announced that they will retarget the US and European countries with their missles because they think we want their oil and gas.

Why worry? All that nuke fallout science is probably baloney too! 8-)

Look, whether or not Dubya was smart to flex our muscle in Iraq rather than focusing on getting Osama, our national credibility was the only certain casualty. The world no longer either believes our "intelligence" nor cowers to our threats. After all, Osama's still making tapes, Kim Jung Il as nukes and Iran is well on the way. How's that for a report card?

Dubya's strategic failure is thus arguably far more damaging to us than was Carter's tactical failure in the May 1980 desert raid.

Happily, we have people smarter than anybody here talking to our adversaries now. Since brute force has been pretty thoroughly discredited, let's "lawyer it up" for a spell. You guys can load up your weapons and prepare to shoot at the turbans at the convenience store. :rambo:

I don't wish my enemies ill. I wish them wisdom. If they make an attempt to kill me, I kill them, and then wish the others wisdom to understand why that was a bad idea.

That's the big difference between the post-WWI and post-WWII time. And now, the war days when "the only good [German/Jap] is a dead [German/Jap]" are history.

Thankfully, the "Bush Doctrine" is effectively dead. And, actually, Bush himself killed it by phonying up the lead-up to the Iraq war. We're not going to be attacking nations anymore just because we "think" they "might" be a threat to us. Because we'd have to do that alone, and that just won't fly anymore.

None of this means we shouldn't and won't be prepared to anticipate threats and deter attacks. And I'll take all the TV interviews necessary to advance that approach, in whatever language.

And I along with countless other believe this is making us more unsafe. Judging by Russia wanting to park Bombers 90 miles off our coast, the ramping up Nukes and saber rattling from Iran and N. Korea. Like it or not, they feared US becuase they feared Bush.

None of this means we shouldn't and won't be prepared to anticipate threats and deter attacks. And I'll take all the TV interviews necessary to advance that approach, in whatever language.

Sorry, but TV interviews will not save us, nice thought though. Maybe we need put out posters with Flowers in gun Barrels and sing kum-by-ya.

Let's all keep in mind where you head is at though Ed.A:

By your thinking then, it is better to have a Saddam Hussein, Adolf Hitler Or Joseph Stalin as your country's leader because other nations will fear him. Pretty Un-American if you ask me. :nono:
Safety is not the only way to measure a leader. ....Morality is more important.

Mr.Stocking, I seriously doubt your feelings would be "lawyer it up" if you had to bury someone dear to you who was only 20 years old! I guarentee you would be in the same crowd looking for vengence! nice opinion but I don't buy it. There are too many....

Devil said,

Morality is more important

You have to have a basis you can always refer to but as far as I have seen the democrats always use situational ethics which is ever changing. Maybe thats why your always so contrary.

Pocono, I'm very sorry for the loss of your friend and, out of respect for that loss, won't engage in the debate with you further.

That said, of course you know that yours is not the only reasonable human reaction to such a loss.

Thanks for the respect. I understand of human reaction. I realize it has been going since able and cain . I would think that before every serious conflict throught time there was the verbal discussion method, more often than not just prior to a ambush. The major difference with the modern society is somewhere between WWII and Nam & Korea and the more frequent offensive's, right and wrong got side swiped with global greed rooted within our own judicial/governmental/military system. Morality?? I wonder if a draft age person could give a definition of the word via the "schooled" knowledge, our system uses currently.

So many before him, and unfortunately its still going on...

If the profiteer's weren't involved...we would still be the top world power!! things are grim in that view these days :|

edit: not that i dont think we are not top, rather willing to prove it like we used to ..

Teddy Roosevelt had it right: "Speak softly and carry a big stick."

Diplomacy backed by might is actually more effective than flailing expeditions. At least it used to be before Bush singlehandedly destroyed our cred.

Contrast with the Bush Doctrine of "attack as soon as you discern a threat" and most would readily see that you can get far more leverage out of TR's approach -- and far fewer wars and casualties.

I generally speak softly and carry a gun instead of a stick. Pocnoeagle's friend is a true hero. He gave everything he had for us. I think you all know my opinion regarding this:

There was a Pied Piper who said “We live in the greatest country in the world. Help me change it!”
*And the people said, “Change is good!”
Then he said, “We are going to tax the rich fat-cats,”……
*And the people said “Sock it to them!”
“and redistribute their wealth.”
*And the people said, “Show me the money!”
And then he said, “Redistribution of wealth is good for everybody”
*And Joe the plumber said, are you kidding me?”
And Joe’s personal records were hacked and publicized.
*And one lone reporter asked, “Isn’t that Marxist policy?”
And she was banished from the kingdom!
Then someone asked, “With no foreign relations experience, how will you deal with radical terrorists?”
And the Pied Piper said, “Simple.. I’ll sit down and talk with them and show them how nice we really are and they’ll forget that they ever wanted to kill us all!”
Then the Pied Piper said, “I’ll give 95% of you lower taxes.”
*And one, lone voice said, “But 40% of us don’t pay ANY taxes.”
So the Pied Piper said, “Then I’ll give you some of the taxes the fat-cats pay!”
*And the people said, “Show me the money!”
Then the Pied Piper said, “I’ll tax your Capital Gains when you sell your homes!”
*And the people yawned and the slumping housing market collapsed.
And he said, “I’ll mandate employer- funded health care for EVERY worker and raise the minimum wage.”
*And the people said, “Gim’me some of that!”
Then he said, “I’ll penalize employers who ship jobs overseas.”
*And the people said, “Where’s my rebate check?”
Then the Pied Piper actually said, “I’ll bankrupt the coal industry and electricity rates will skyrocket!”
*And the people said, “Coal is dirty, coal is evil, no more coal! But we don’t care for that part about higher electric rates.”
So the Pied Piper said, “Not to worry. If your rebate isn’t enough to cover your expenses, we’ll bail you out. Just sign up with ACORN and your troubles are over!” Then he said, “Illegal immigrants feel scorned and slighted. Let’s grant them amnesty,Social Security, free education, free lunches, free medical care, bi-lingual signs and guaranteed housing.”
*And the people said, “Ole`! Bravo!” And they made him King!
And so it came to pass that employers, facing spiraling costs and ever-higher taxes, raised their prices and laid off workers. Others simply gave up and went out of business and the economy slowed even further. Then the Pied Piper said, “I am the Messiah and I’m here to save you! We’ll just print more money so everyone will have enough!” But our foreign trading partners said, “Wait a minute. Your dollar isn’t worth what it was.. You’ll have to pay more.”
*And the people said, “Wait a minute. That’s not fair!”
And the world said, “Neither are these other, idiotic programs you’ve embraced. You’ve become a Socialist state and a second-rate power. Now you’ll play by our rules!”
*And the people said, “What have we done?”
But it was too late.
If you think this is a fairy tale, open your eyes and ears. It’s happening RIGHT NOW!
Did you know the president’s name is really an acronym…

One Big Ass Mistake America
