At what point weather-wise does that brick on the inside of the Channing III come off? The manual doesn't make it very clear other than to say it should be removed when the weather warms. Should it be completely removed or just nudged aside to open the vent behind it a little bit? What purpose does it serve?

The little brick apparently opens up a 3rd passageway to the chimney, thereby (theoretically) increasing the draft. With the warmer temperatures, my manometer dropped to almost zero a couple of times when I turned it down to 1.5. So, I turned up the heat a bit to keep the draft.

I used a crowbar (I don't have a poker) to move it to the right a bit...not enough to make it drop down to the bottom. I did it when it was running at about 2 or 2.5, so there's no way my hand is going in there! I think opening it up definitely DID increase the draft, but, by how much, I couldn't give a definite answer. I haven't set mine lower than 2 since, but my manometer hasn't gone below .04 WC, either, so I'm a happy camper!

Is this "brick" something one of you guys could take a picture of? I've heard it mentioned a few times but my installer never said anything about it? So I'm not sure what we're talking about here. A pic would be nice.

It's inside the stove on the upper left back wall. It slides open in a metal track. Can't miss it.
