Nationalized Healthcare in the UK

If you don't believe the article--or think the problem is limited to only one UK hospital--read the 104 (as of now) comments:
"Dehydrated patients were forced to drink out of flower vases, while others were left in soiled linen on filthy wards."
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/artic ... pital.html
Not saying it's this bad everywhere with socialized medicine, but this is one example.

Yeah, about 15 years ago my wife broke her ankle when she was in Italy, they put a cast on, my wife got it wet but they wouldn't put a new one on they just kept adding to the old one so it ended up being huge. She could totally wiggle her foot while it was in the cast.
Her ankle never seemed to heal right (permanently swollen look) and a couple years ago she had an x-ray and guess what?...IT'S STILL BROKEN! The broken piece of bone is just kinda floating around in there.
In Italy the State(Govt)pays for health care.

Government doesn't pay for anything. We need to stop using terms like that. People pay for things. Government takes money from people and spends it on things the people may or may not agree with.

So, since you claim to understand this, please explain IN DETAIL how it works in Italy.

Well, ya got government. And they don't produce one saleable item. So they have to take from someone. That someone is collectively called "taxpayers".

Some of those taxpayers don't have a brain in their head so they think "free" government programs are actually free when in reality, the money is coming out of their pockets.

The rest of the taxpayers are smart enough to know that nothing is free and therefore get a little PO'd when they have to subsidize the drooling morons around them.

I may have left some of the details out, but that's a good overview.

Not exactly true. Governments create value by regulation then selling off to private enterprise what they have regulated. Many examples. FCC auction of selective portions of the frequency spectrum, mineral rights on public lands, offshore oil drill leases, drug approval, etc. On a local level it's zoning rights. Government creates or destroys value by what they permit a land owner to do with his land. It all gets touchy when it's not fair, and what's fair is subjective depending on what side of the fence you are on.

But they didn't "create" or "produce" those radio waves, mineral deposits or anything else. What they are saying by selling "rights" to this stuff is, "We own everything, and if you pay enough, we'll let you rent it for a while."

And that's what side of the fence I'M on. And I didn't even pull a permit to put that fence up! :D
