I shut down my Mag yeaterday.
I did all the scraping and brushing but I'm wondering about the " wipe down" with baking soda/water.
Doesn't that leave a "slimey, snotty" mess ?
Anytime I've seen flyash get wet, it gets really messy....
Another question; how much of the LPS do you spray on ? Does it cause problems ( fumes) when you re-lite ?
Where's the best place to find LPS 3 ?
Thanks for the help.

Mossy ~ I can't answer about the concentration of baking soda since I have not tried that neat trick yet. I found that the Harbor Freight store near me has LPS for about $10. a can. It is pricey stuff but seems to have all the qualities of lubrication, coating and protection one could want.I have been spraying it on everything around here, well almost everything. As for any smoke, flame or commotion in the new boiler next fall at lite off,I plan to stand by with a fire extinguisher as I have no idea what to expect. regards, Mike

The LPS will soak in a bit and evaporate to a certain point. I have never had any problems, if it does smoke when you light your stove up, it goes up the chimney, unless you keep the door open.
I think I got mine at NAPA or AutoZone? Can't remember. He is right around $8-10.

The wipe-down with the baking soda solution will leave a white residue behind,, but the acids will be neutralized, which is the most important part. You want to vacuum up as much of the fly ash as possible, scrape, brush and vacuum the insides as clean as possible, wash down with soda, let dry a day or two, then use whatever spray or other anti-corrosive you choose.
