The cold makes sense. In school I remember putting fish in liquid nitrogen, the teacher dropped one and it shattered into a million pieces to prove to us just how frozen it was. He then put another fozen one in a beaker of warm water and after a few minutes the fish started swimming around again. Worked with frogs too, we got in a little trouble with that one. It managed to turn up later in one of the cuter girls blouse.

Says no catch and release either. Can't kill them, can't release them after you catch them. Just what are you supposed to do with the fish?
