Can you burn buckwheat in a Koker direct vent? Or does it have to be rice?

Keystoker recommends rice coal in their stoves, but many burn buck with good results.i have not tried buck in mine.if you already have buck then I would go ahead and give it a try.worst that could happen is you it might burn  it could cause a jam in your stoker if it is to large.good chance you won't have any problem though.

Thanks stokin railroad. It is my understanding that Keystoker burns buck in their stoves at the factory so I don't think it is an issue. My question was about the direct vent model. Does a direct vent nessesatate using only rice?

The Keystoker can burn buckwheat, but not with a direct vent.

Paulie, just wondering why not with a direct vent ... is there a problem with the amount of draft provided by the DV? Too much or too little. I'm not certain how much draft control there is with their DV. If there's/you have a rehostat controling the DV speed and a monometer to monitor the change, couldn't this set up be used to burn either size. I'm wondering because I plan to install mine w/a SWG PV and am interested in getting as many options as posible in place.

Too much draft sucks air down through the bin. The fire can follow the air back into the bin. The cure would be a variable
vent control as you mentioned. Less air can move through rice, so that is why it is specified with DV. But even with rice,
you will find posts here detailing several hopper fires. A hopper temp switch that kills the stove and vent when the hopper
reaches set limit is an added safety, do a search and read all about it.
