New File Management Panel and BBcodes

New File Management Panel and BBcodes

PostBy: Richard S. On: Wed Apr 08, 2009 7:09 am

If you go into your control panel (link at the top of the forum) on left left hand side there is link for "My attachments". If you click this it will give you list of all your attachments and thumbnails. This feature was present before but not very usable because there was no thumbnails. In addition you'll find a block of code for a new custom BBCode. If you want to paste an attachment into a post simply hit the "Select" button which will highlight the BBcode. Right click to copy it then paste it into the post. This bbcode block is also on all attachments in posts so you can easily use these images in other posts.

I'm still not done with this, there's some styling to do and I need to add some sort options to the control panel but other than that everything should work as intended. If you run into anything let me know.

Yes, that is useful. Is it possible to have in come up sorted first by file type extension and then by date?

Not at first, by default it's by file name, think I might change that to the time it was uploaded. I added some links for quick sorting, each time you click the link it will toggle between ascending and descending. I believe the default for file extension is by date other that the extension itself. There's more options for sorting on the drop down box on the bottom.

I'll see if I can work in an option for selecting specific file types.

I'm probably going to change this and use a table and maybe a pop up that will show the thumbnail when you hover.

Hmmmmm, it looks like I loaded the exact same images, several times. Is it possible to delete the duplicates?

The images would be in separate posts so no, if you delete them they will get deleted from that post. That is one reason I added this so you can find images easily instead of uploading them again.

I tweaked it so it's easier to understand, here's the run down...

The default sort order is by filename. To sort them you can click the headings on the very top, to sort the opposite way click the same heading. For example if you click the heading downloads you'll get a list sorted from the least to most downloads, you can reverse it clicking the heading again which will sort them from the most downloaded.

Richard, I was able to sort them by Post time, but the arrows showing which column is being sorted, remained on the Filename column. I guess we cannot force a new default sort order.

Not to get off topic, but I was wondering how you take a snapshot of the screen and insert it into a post. I have tried but I can not figure it out. Thanks

Jeff

Example below. Also thanks Chris, I keep forgeting to ask and your snapshot reminded me finally so I borrowed yours. Plus I wanted to try the BBcode thing. :)

Did you try ctrl and print screen? That will copy the pic on your clipboard then you can paste to whatever you want.

Ahhh, the arrow is "window dressing" to give an indication they are links. Adding them next to the heading you are currently sorting and indicating ascending or descending I can do. That's a pretty good idea.

You should only have to hit the print screen key and it will place it on the clipboard. Paste using any image program. For example open up Paint and paste it. Save as.....

Arrows now indicate what column is being sorted and what direction. Sorry didn't answer you question before, no there is no way to to force a default sort order. I'll add it to my to do list. The default is ascending. You can bookmark the page after selecting one you like...
