It doesn't kick like one though. :)

Ever fire one on full auto? (almost impossible to control after the first round exits the barrel) You may have a chance hitting something with your firt shot. 2nd one will be high & to the right.....Anything after that is basically firing an anti-aircraft piece!

The fact that we have local police running around with APCs and real assault rifles is why law abiding citizens need assault rifles. We need protection from the same bad guys. You must realize that the function of the police is to put law breakers in prision. As a function of that job they protect the public (by getting the bad guys off the street) but do not be misled, the function of the police is not to protect you. That is your job.

I never fired a full auto M-14. The nicest full auto was the BAR, that puppy would lay them right where you want them with a nudge, not a kick. Lightest touch 30-06 ever. :)

Another nice, low kick weapon was the 45cal Grease gun. It was 'Blow-Back" operated so the very heavy bolt absorbed most of the kick before slamming forward to fire the next round. You could hold those uyp to your nose & fire them, without even getting so much as a nose bleed!

I plan on road testing an M1 Thompson shortly, it is an early one and fires from an open bolt. I have goosebumps! :)

Not like the MG-42, that thing ate $140 of ammo in 11 seconds.

Damn, you guys have had to much fun. I have never had access to full auto guns. The best assault style gun I ever handled and fired was a HK 91 a friend had. It was remarkable how quickly I could fire and get back on target after the shot.

There is a whole ship full of Tommy's up here on the bottom. It was sunk in WW2 just off the coast of Maine.

10 years ago I had the oppertunity to fire a Thompson with a drum magazine at a gun show, the barrel would climb and it was hard to keep on target. the instructor told me thats why you see them held on their side so they would sweep what you fired at.

I worked with a guy that was a sargent during WWII and Korea, he fought against the Japs in the Pacific. He wouldn't let his men use Thompsons during the day because they sounded an awful lot like the Jap guns. But he did wheel them out at dusk when they were bedding down to spray the trees for snipers. He said they were outstanding for that. :D

the term "Assault Weapon" is just a news profit making tool. Note that all the automatic rifles you guys are talking about are the really fun and pretty-much-impossible-to-obtain-unless-you-are-wealthy "assault weapons". The AR-15's and AK-47 style guns are just fun toys. They aren't much good for hunting nor are they much better at home defense, generally speaking a .270 bolt action will out shoot any semi-auto rifle for hunting and a shotgun is best for home defense. Most murderers use handguns, not AR-15's. Any semi-auto, even a 10/22, you can't get 10rds touching on the target in rapid fire mode. My dad ran a M60 .30 cal machine gun in the Army. Not much fun I guess hauling that SOB all around creation for practice so he doesn't have any interest in them today. . So why do they want the ban, because to paraphrase George Carlin IT'S TO MAKE WHITE PEOPLE FEEL SAFE.
