Don't Feed the Trolls

What's a troll? Well the definition on wikipedia is the following:

An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum or chat room, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion.

The best way to prevent people like this is to simply not respond as it's attention they are seeking. No attention and they will simply go away. If in the event you come across any posts like this particularly if they are a new member please use the report button on the post so that I or a moderator can deal with it.

Richard, could you move those Troll-threads under a new topic "Troll Examples" for everyone to see and understand what you are talking about? Lock them, of course.

I think it's pretty much self explanatory, if you have poster especially one that is brand new posting an inflammatory post then you can assume they are troll. For example if someone comes on here and posts "Coal is going to kill you" the idea is to illicit a bunch of responses. The original poster may never even return to see what the responses are.

Naaaaa, not me, Jeff. I'm not sure I have ever seen one, so wanted to see examples. The moderators must be right on top of them, and cleaning them before they get out to the "NEW Topics" list?
