Some years ago there was a kind and gentlemanly young man (30's) that had come to the US (NJ) to escape
the TALIBAN of his Hometown in Afghanistan...He told of his friends, that remained in Afghanistan,
relating the results a Cruise Missile strike, destroying a rather peaceful, village in the mountains (while Clinton
was in office). He expressed that BIN LADEN (perhaps, or other possible target) was not known to be in the area (at that time).
Any number of times he told of the relentless TERROR that the TALIBAN used to their end.

TALIBAN is an EVIL that should not be allowed to operate amongst ANY CIVIL SOCIETY...

Maybe. But why is it our problem? Many countries think capital punishment is an "evil" that has no place in a "civil society." Do you support Canada's "right" to attack us to rid the USA from the evils of capital punishment? Why don't the Afgani's have the same freedom of self determination that you expect?

Wasn't our government formed because of the oppressive nature of the government you speak so highly of? We are a sovereign nation who bows to no other nation (we didn't until BO). We have our own laws that need to be upheld in their original essence but because of our usurping government (both parties) they have been circumvented. The death penalty does work if used as originally written not as it is corrupted now (Sen Kennedy the murderer). Canada does not have free speech any more where as ours is being striped day by day as per present administration. Our CONSTITUTION and BILL OF RIGHTS says it all and we have no need for interpretation as those who don't stand by them would have you believe. Your Starting to sound like somebody familiar if you get my drift.

I am all for the Afgani's freedom of self-determination...TALIBAN allows no freedom...COMPLY OR DIE...
TALIBAN has no Capital Punishment...THEY MURDER AT WILL.

As the US and other CIVILIZED Nations (Though you hold the US is Barbaric... ) are nations of the world, they seek to defeat evil as a means to attempt survival...That makes this OUR BUSINESS

FURTHER:
I have met (that I am aware of) four murderers:
One murdered (in cold blood) four elderly persons and lives in a NJ prison
And OJ Simpson. who lives still
The other two were found "justifiable"

That some are executed is in accord with the power given a government by its citizenry to preserve Society.
Some would hold that if you don't like TALIBAN's measures you should MOVE....
To that end, & Similarly if "CAPITAL PUNISHMENT" offends one they should move elsewhere:

Guys, I'm going to chalk this up to the limitations of the internet. You are hearing things I'm not saying and I guess I can't make myself clear with my fairly limited writing skills. I'll just say that should ever the opportunity arise, I'd be happy to buy a round and we could discuss it in depth. But at this point, I've said all I'm going to say here.

Jpete, I am with you more then you think. But you are taking the high ground and sometimes we need to act like heathens. If you look at the last 400 years or so with white men running all over the globe claiming land for their King or Queen, things have only improved. We spend more time and money trying to help the worlds poor then all other countries in history combined. And we go fight other peoples fights just to keep them free. Sometimes they are not as free as we are but I think we are discovering just how remarkable the founding of this country was. There are not many men cut from the cloth of our founders. Not in our current gov. for sure. This is my last word also as I don't want to continue to argue or irritate when the points of contention are trivial.
Keep on working for your 'ideal".
