For him personally that was the best choice he had, he's trailing in the polls by like 20 points. I won't say no chance but it's not looking good. Last ditch effort to save his next election I guess and he will get a lot of Democratic votes.

I'am not really suprised. These guys all look at the bottom line. Re election. Party affiliation is secondary to them. Many of them bad mouth opponents all day long and go to dinner with them at night. There are many great friendships between Dems and Republicans in washington. We are the people with the wool pulled over our eyes thinking they are die hards. Hence im staying Independant 8-)

March 17th interview:
Specter "I think as a governmental matter, it is very important to have a check and balance."

Its all about the POWER.

"The five-term incumbent senator, who switched from Democrat to Republican before running for Philadelphia district attorney in 1965"

He's a double turncoat.

Arlen has been a RINO for a long time. When I heard this on the radio, I told a guy at work, "Arlen Specter just came out of the closet." Without missing a beat he said, "What? He admitted he's a Democrat?"

We just had a gubernatorial candidate switch from independent to Republican here in MA. Not sure what good it will do ..... we'll have 17 R's vs. 120+ D's instead of 16. :|

Im glad arlen spector changed partys. He is spineless and wouldn't stand up for the republican party when they needed him to. He could of stopped the stimulus bill from passing or stood up to the dems and make take out a lot of the pork.

He deserves to be a democrat. good riddance!

Good luck with your election on 2010

Are you kidding?!?! He's a shoe-in to win both the Democratic nomination & the general election as a Democrat. It'll be a landslide! (The only race he would have lost would have been the ultra-conservative Republican Primary)
The Republicans can't even sustain a filibuster anymore & are basically only a regional party of white, Christian males in the Southwest U.S. now.

Im a registered rupublican with conservative values and dont live in the southwest. I think you underestimate that power of the conservative party.

And as far as spector is concerned, He wont get re-elected.

Isnt this the same touch hole that wanted to launch an ivestigation about the NFL Patriots spygate? http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3395829. He shouldnt be in any party if he wants to waste tax payer money doing crap like that. I think his best days are behind him.

I have always voted Snow and Collins but I think they are in for a rude awakening next time around. I only hope we can find some decent candidates. Pingree and Allen and Michaud are dyed in the wool Democrats and I will not vote for them ever.

He changed parties to better his chance to get re-elected but I think he is one of the few that thinks things out before voting. He is a politician & even at his age wants to remain one but was not ( ever as far as I remember) a party line voter. I didn`t really like him much myself but thats what I recall about him.

As an NJ resident, I don't have a vote. There are a few news items that I've recently heard starting from his stimulus vote to now. Going from memory here and thats a holey commodity

He received ~ 55% of his general election votes from Dems

In the last general election BO brought 200k PA-R votes to the D column

Not filibuster-proof yet, at least not until AF is seated. When is a big :?:
