Swine Flu concerns?

Swine Flu concerns?

PostBy: mr1precision On: Tue Apr 28, 2009 6:28 pm

Is anyone concerned about the swine flu? Is the government doing enough to stop it?
The part that worries me is that it seems to be deadly to young healthy people.

If it comes around my neck of the woods, I'm prepared to ride out 2-3 weeks with no outside contact.

That's our plan, too. Beginning now, minimize outside contact.

HA! I just heard that the company that layed me off, is bringing up two guys from Mexico City, to train them for the work I used to do! I hope they get the whole company sick!

I look at the swine flu like I look at everything else: If not this, it'll be a car accident, asthma attack or cancer -- one way or the other. Why worry? ;)

CNN says thousands killed by "regular flu".

I still plan on being cautious though.

I had the swine flu the last time it went around in 76, nasty stuff, only thing I could keep down were pop sickles. Every muscle in my body felt like it was coming apart and the ballistic stuff was just awful. I hope they come up with something to help people, not only here but everywhere. I was 18 at the time and was running cross country track for my high school so was in pretty good shape, but it sure did grab me hard.

I hope this flu doesnt amount to anything serious. Sorta like the sars scare.

something i find weird is that Canada knew about the swine flu before we did here in the ole usa.

seems like the obama admin isnt on top of things.

then we have obama telling us not to be alarmed.

For me, him telling us not to be concerned makes me very concerned that this is far worse then they are telling us.

Maine is safe! We closed all the airports and dynamited the Kittery bridge. What? We didn't? Why not? Ohh noooooo.

I remember the big deal back in '76. It was hell for those that got it. It was near hell for those that got the government shots. We had no money for gas, but we were scared enough by the feds that we traveled the 60 miles to the nearest swine flu shot clinic. It took two, maybe three shots, a month apart to get immunity. We got the first shot, then the feds declared the shots caused more trouble than the flu and canceled the program. At least that's how my brain remembers it.... I do know we never had chance for more than the first shot.

I had the Hong Kong flu in 1968, something I never want to repeat. Almost 34,000 americans died during that one and it was considered minor. I have never caught a bad strain of flu since and never get flu shots. Hopefully the case of flu I had in 68 left me with some imunity.

The government made it worse in the 70's so why do we think they could help this time? I'm no genuis but 6.5 billion people in the world, about 3,000 reported cases so far. I think it's a slow news time and this seems like a story right now but nothing more. I guarentee more people have the normal seasonal flu right now then have the "Swine" "1H1N" "Mexico" "North American" or whatever other name has come up thus far.

I would say those hit the worst are the poor pigs who have had thier names drug thru the mud by this whole thing. Egypt performed some Pig genocide just today sluaghtering 300,000 pigs so they wouldn't contract the virus.

All that being said I sure hope I don't get it

You spoke 10 hours too soon, Freddy. Maine is proud owner of 3 out of 50 confirmed cases, 2 more than our fair share. As for '76, you only remember one shot because shots 2 and 3 caused memory loss. At least I think so, because I don't remember '76 much at all, or '86, or '96, or....
