1200 pounds left.
Burning coal is definitely worth the extra work involved.

I shutdown back in April. Lit up two nights ago to take the dampness off of the house due to 7 days of rain. I have enough coal for maybe a 4 hr burn one more time in a shorten firebox That's it! I plan it this way every season. No need to stock pile here.

Ten tons won't fit into the ole coal bin, volume recalc required. Won't matter a whole lot how cold it gets next winter. Better stock up on the staples....BIG munchie problems, and I'll bet the draft required to keep the 'conditioned space' habitable will be over .04" of mercury!

I have 2 ton of buckwheat left. I thought I read once that it was not a good idea to put a new load of coal on top of your old coal pile. Is that true, and why if so? I burn 5 ton for the last 3 years average. I tried a search, but had no luck.

The fines from each load will accumulate at the bottom and you will have a problem if there is too much of it.
