Chicken Coop Invader

Possums and Raccoons have an amazing 'homing instict' .. I took a raccoon 10 miles away, on the other side of several major roads and the Interstate.. The 'coon was back in 2 days.. I know it was the same coon, because I painted an orange bulls-eye on his butt before I set him loose.. The next time I used the bulls-eye for what it was intended.

Possums are NASTY !! I'd dispatch it and not loose a wink.

I just got back. I did not have any takers for it, and my father-in-law is not around to make his famous "Possum Stew" (yuck  ). I'm affraid it will bite my two kids or the dog, or the remaining chickens, so it went for a trip.

I had a buddy that took an old steel wire milk crate and mounted a mouse trap on top. He rigged the trigger of the mouse trap to a trip lever inside the crate, where he put bait for critters. He had a 22 shell rigged up somehow to fire directly downward, when the mouse trap tripped, it would fire the bullet, with the hopes of a brain shot. He stopped using it because it would just shoot the critters noses off.

Heck I was cutting the grass the other day & a bald eagle came down in a snatch & fly about 40ft in front of me, it had what looked to be a 3ft snake & it didn`t slow him a bit. Don`t know if they would try a chicken or not but I think it could.

We lost two chickens last month, to a hawk. I happen to look out the window to see him sitting on the second chicken in our yard, tearing the flesh off the back of the chicken's neck. That hawk didn't even move when I yelled out the window.

I've heard that rattle snake tastes like scallops. Rumor has it if you order scallops in Texas....well.... if the grain goes in the wrong direction, well......
