Senator Tom Ridge?

Senator Tom Ridge, I like the sound of that. Although Toomey will be no match Specter it appears the Republicans are beating the war drums for Ridge who is paltry 3 points behind Specter and he is not even running.

Former Pennsylvania governor Tom Ridge (R) is seriously considering a 2010 bid for the Senate seat held by Republican-turned-Democrat Arlen Specter and will make his decision in the next two weeks, according to several sources familiar with his thinking.

Ridge is perhaps the state's most decorated Republican, having held a House seat for more than a decade, spent eight years as governor and served as the first secretary of homeland security under President George W. Bush. He was also mentioned as a possible vice presidential pick for Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) in 2008.

Polling suggests that Ridge would be more competitive than Toomey against Specter, who left the GOP last week, in a general election. In a new survey by Quinnipiac University, Specter leads Ridge by a narrow margin of 46 percent to 43 percent, while he holds a 20-point margin over Toomey.

It's ironic but Specters move to the Democratic party could possibly have been the best thing to happen to the Republican party. Ridge has never lost an election. He was elected 6 consecutive times as State Rep, came out of nowhere to be elected governor and got reelected in 1998 by a 57% margin.

He only left office after being appointed the first Homeland Security director. Truthfully I though Ridge was going to run for President this last time up.

If he throws his hat in the ring bye-bye Specter, nice to know ya. :lol:

I'd like to see Ridge win that senate seat for no other reason than not allowing one party total control. Neither of these parties can be trusted.

I may be wrong here but don`t you have to reside in the state in which your running? Of course since Chaney & bush were both from the same state maybe that rule was changed also. In any event please buy american made duct tape & plastic.

I'm not sure of residency requirements. I'm sure there is one but it may only be months, not years. Besides, I think he lives near Pittsburgh.

Yeah, that duct tape was one of the low points of his career. He actually was a halfway decent governor unlike the present *censored*.

Just looked it up and apparently that won't be a legal issue. I'd imagine he still has a residence here. The one article I read said he listed a Maryland address as his home for a business. Hillary is a senator in NY and if I remember correctly she only moved in shortly before the election?

Will most certainly come up during campaigning though, I don't think it will be much of an issue for him becsue he does have a long history here. He was elected governor twice.

I know that Rick Santorum got in trouble with the residence thing, had a home in Penn Hills that he tried to claim but having a lawn service cut the grass on a vacant home doesn`t count. He was no where near as bad as toll gate Ed, what I really took exception to was his using his hearing loss as a dissability before the election & then getting it fixed right after. I remember that he made a big deal of cutting some taxes but like all others we still ended up paying more.

Toll Gate Ed, I like that. It's probably one of the most kind things said about him in a long time. We got our property tax reduction from the gambling casinos posted this year. The state contribution from gaming 52.72. Last week our township passed their new budget. There will be a property tax increase. The average increase will be....... 52.72. You know you just can't win with these bastards.
