I live just north of scranton, clarks summit area. Coal was from Agel Coal, W. Locust St, Scranton PA. Delivery was less than 15 miles. I burned 4 tons last year and year before with no problems, but i am not too picky. my stove burns anything I throw at it.

I just received a letter from Wheeler's in Jordan, NY near Syracuse;

pre-season coal, bagged, on a pallet:

Order and pay by Aug 29, Pickup or delivery by Sept 19, 2009

60-40# bags per pallet, = 1.2 tons
Rice or Nut coal - Price $325/pallet ($270 per ton for calculator types) = $5.42/bag

Delivery charge depends on mileage and number of pallets purchased.

I was quoted $475/ton of Pea Anthracite picked up...feel like I'm getting screwed @ that price. I live in PA even. 45 minutes south of Schuykill(spl?) County. I feel like I should be able to get a better price. Anyone from Central PA have a source for me. Also I'm completely new to this and came from an Oil Burning/Forced Air home where i was averaging $2200/year in heating oil!! Crazy. I have a hand fed Efel coal stove and i'm crazy excited to use it this year. Any tips and suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

WHAT? & you're IN PA? I'm in central Maine & can get bulk delivered for about $265 a ton. I'd keep shopping.

I think I'm going to be in the market for a new supplier. I'm going to be paying $24/ton more than last season. Doesn't sound like much, but it is to me.

Anybody from Monson/Palmer/Ware/Harwick MA area have any prices?

Hey can I ask, how are you guys picking up your coal? Seems to me a pickup can only carry at most a ton at a time! Gas can get expensive...any one rent a truck or trailer for your annual runs? Thanks!

I just checked the prices at my local supplier for Blaschak rice. For 3 tons, no delivery charge, and $234.50 per ton. Thats cheaper than last year. But last year was when Diesel was so expensive to make the delivery.

I just got 3 tons bulk chestnut for $220/ ton + $10 to deliver the load, from Poso Coal and stoves. That was $10/ton less than last fall. He carries Blaschak. This is in central upstate NY.
