Things are looking up

For myself anyway. Got the call to go back to work starting Monday. Been laid off since April 13th. I still wish all of those that have lost their jobs, the best of luck in your search.

I'm looking to find a second job but I can't find my resume so I can update it! :(

I've got a contract negotiation coming up and the company already closed one plant and sent it to Mexico. I've seen pictures of the building down there and it's mostly empty space!

Yep, my job went to Mexico in Oct'08. Trouble is, they can't find any qualified Mexicans to do my work! My old boss told me she'll give me back my job if I move to Mexico City

Yeah, my company is finding the same thing. But the potential is there. I don't think they are going to want to keep spending money on a near empty building.

I work for a company that manufactures cable connectors for television and large connectors for communication cables. About 10 yrs. ago we were bought out by the current owner and they moved our assembly dept. to Mexico. Cost about 70 people their jobs. Not to mention the loss of one of our largest customers. They wanted the products they buy to be manufactured and assembled in the USA. They have not as of yet brought their business back to us. They have on occasion purchased small quantities of parts that we are able to hand assemble in our plant, but that's only if they are desperate for the parts.

As of today, the job loss count of people I know jumped to 3. Not looking good in this area, but I knew it would happen (the recession). I called it in ' 03 -- had to constantly explain to my wife, when we were house hunting, my logic for spending $300 to lock in our percentage rate until we closed. Now she gets it!

Congrats Ceccil! I'll drink to that!

Hahaha, I just noticed the Human Resources Dept at my old company just got renamed. I guess it wasn't "politically Correct" enough. They are now called "The Talent Acquisition Department"  :wtf:
