Corps: Costs for storm surge barrier work rises

I think they should abandon New Orleans. Wouldn't it be cheaper to move each and every building to a higher location?

In all, Congress gave the corps $14.3 billion after Hurricane Katrina to build a better flood protection system for the New Orleans region.

It is doomed no matter what they do.

At the very least the areas at or below sea level should have been abandoned.

Yeah, I couldn't live there, I would always be thinking about the water. I remember watching a program on Discovery about New Orleans flooding potential by hurricane/storm surge a couple years before Katrina hit. It's just a matter of time before it happens again.

Same old story all up & down the ol-miss & a lot of other rivers. If you build in a flood plain you are going to get flooded. Its in the wording itself not hard to understand its all part of nature & people always say that you can`t beat mother-nature but still keep trying. English is a odd laungage with all the same spelt or pronounced words haveing different meanings but I think its pretty clear in the case of N.O. On a different note the thought of many that an illeagle has rights always gets me also.

I say strap some 55 gallon drums to the trailers oh yeah we still need them for our coal burners. Oh well it was a good idea anyway.
