How do you keep the fire going if the power goes out? What purpose do the tube spinners serve?

The Auger tube does not spin the Auger inside does Reason why so it can feed the coal into the pot . Also for cleaning out any type of blockage in the tube either towards the pot or the bin or drum .Flip the dog paw on the gear drum back so it does not touch the gear drum teeth . Put the wench or handel on the Sq block in front of the drum gear and turn either way to clear the blockage in the tube. Or to feed the coal during a Power outage turn it to the left to feed the coal to the pot don't forget to flip the dog paw back in place when feeding the coal. Turn it to right to feed towards the bin or drum flip the dog paw back so it is not touching the drum teeth when turning to the right . When power is back on flip
the paw into place and leave the stoker take over .

OR, are you talking about the pieces of bent metal inside the boiler tubes? which are used to slow the flow of combustion heat through the tubes and allow more heat-to-water transfer?

The spinners are called Turbulators they do what Stoker - man mention Aswell as collect alot of Flyash on them you should take them out and clean them often. Take the rear base plate off and lift them up off the rods that hold them in
place and slide them out use a tube brush 1 3/4" to a 2" to clean the inside of the tubes out. Or you can leave the rear plate on and go threw the flue opening alot tighter but can be done
