Just installed Internet Explorer 8! Help!

PostBy: sterling40man On: Fri Jun 26, 2009 6:28 pm

I hope you guys can help me with this. I installed IE 8 a couple of nights ago and now I can't even get into it. I haven't been able to since the install. I tried a system restore and rebooting several times. I unplugged all the cables on the tower and waited until the little green light inside went out. Then I pressed the power button for 5 seconds (DELL told me to do this once). I plugged everything back in, started it up and still no internet. I can get everything else including Outlook Express. I'm not to computer savy so any ideas you guys have for me would be great. Thanks.

Not sure if you can remove IE 8 through add/remove programs, if its there remove it. Try installing firefox web browser. Use another PC to download it & copy it to the problem PC. Good luck.

Tool bar conflict or a bad launch of the 'welcome to IE8' tab hoses IE 8 on install.
In 'Folder Options' click the show hidden folders to see this folder...
C:\WINDOWS\ie8\spuninst
Inside find...
spuninst.exe
to...
uninstall IE8
then try to install IE 8 again after you clean the machine of old toolbars and viruses and malware...
mostly toolbars...

Is the OS Vista?
With the folder open, click on the 'ORGANIZE' button in the upper left of it, then click on "Folders and Search Options". Then click on the VIEW tab, then select the "Show Hidden Files and Folders" option under the "Hidden files and Folders" Heading.

Ice out yet? If not, put the cpu on the ice floe and sat goodbye. Now you know why everyone is so skeptical of anything new no matter who introduces it. PITA is the key word for computers. Kinda like women, terrific when they are running right, lethal when they aren't. PS: has your wife figured out that you were telling her "Hog Tales" about coal usage?

Good luck with the computer issue, we've all been there.

Did you notice someone torched freddy's topless donut shop down in Vasselboro? 55, and still acting like a kid! We will have to give him a lesson in "Acceptable Community Standards".

Hello guys,
I just installed IE8 and am now having major problems with this PC. I knew I shouldn't have done it!!!! I just barely got it up and running this morning. It gives me a black screen and says windows couldn't load because so and so file couldn't be found, and it's not the same one each time. I just was able to do a restore point so windows started this time. I also put a different cd burner in, and downloaded a supposedly free program called Driver Detective. Well the download is free, but once it tells you all your drivers are out of date it wants $29.95. I uninstalled that nightmare but maybe it is the culprit.
Now I have to reinstall XP I guess, big pain in the ass.

Up and running again!! :dancing: I tried to do what you guys said with no luck at all. I downloaded IE 8 on my thumb drive and reinstalled it. I think the problem was "add-on buttons". I have a couple of them including Google tool bar. It said that IE 8 would not work well with it and I had to disable it. I didn't do this the first time. Seems to be running fine now. Thanks for the help guys. :D

You can see if the add-ons have updates...
in a browser window...

I "upgraded" to IE8 on our PC (older one with a Pentium 4 and XP Media Center) which previously worked great (if getting a little slow). After the "upgrade" it wouldn't even boot, giving a "missing or corrupt hal.dll file" error. I bought a "rescue" software package and got the thing to at least boot, but no manner of uninstalling IE8, reinstalling IE7, or SP2 or SP3 or anything would get IE up and running in any version. At least the computer was otherwise functional and I use Firefox anyway, but still it *censored* me off. I spent a weekend on it before I finally just restored the entire system from about a 6 week old backup after saving off any new files since that date to the USB hard drive.

After the restore, all was well again, but after I looked around, it seems there are a LOT of issues with IE8, so I'm staying real far away from that POS!
