How is it that the glass can be cleaned until it is spotless, I can close the door, and then 15 minutes later the glass starts fogging. I guess i will call it fogging, even though its not from water.
Greg, Ive had my eyes peeled for the stainless steel screen to try your suggestion, and I haven't been able to locate any.

The glass isn't dirty, It is etched from the coal gas and no amount of cleaning will remove the etching in the glass.
You can keep the glass looking good for a few months but in the end it will get etched and there is nothing you can do about it.

That is what I first thought, but the "fog" will actually clear and I can see through the glass fine. That is until fly ash starts sticking to the glass , and then I repeat the process.

Yep....just like glasses getting etched in the dishwasher, the ceramic on our stoves gets etched and eventually will be permanently damaged. Get used to the orange glow....don't be all OCD about it!!! LOL

I still think its crap that they cant design a piece of class that doesn't etch.
And I really dont think my glass is at that point YET, because the fog will go away, and I can see clearly through the glass.
Besides.....they say every one has a bit of OCD in them.

Right after cleaning I can see through mine. And if yo look real hard you can see the dancing blue ladies. But it is not,well, clear as glass. I just cleaned mine and by tomorrow morning the ladies will not be visible. It is a fact of life with the stokers. The hand fired crowd seems to have better success with the clear glass. Just get used to looking at the soft orange glow and life will be much easier.

I just have a pellet stove running right, going to get coal stove shortly. I just used Windex and fine steel wool and the glass came out clean. By the way, I bought my used pellet stove BEFORE I did the research, now I feel that coal is the way to go......................Mike

I tried putting some wax on mine like what was suggested by wood&coal (I believe) and now when I go and wash it with water it'll be crystal clear and you can see perfectly through it when the glass is wet but as soon as it dries it turns a little foggy. Why would it look perfectly clear when wet but foggy when dry before I get to close the door?

Your glass is etched. If you were to look at it under a microscope you would see that the surface is very rough and not smooth. When it is wet the water is actually filling in this roughness making it smooth and the light is passing straight thru it giving it that clear look. When the water evaporates the light is deflected into different directions because of the little pits giving it a foggy look. The light is being diffused. Have you ever seen the plastic light diffusers that are used on the flourescent lights? They are rough little diamond shapes. It is the same principle as what is happening with your door glass.

I'm just surprised it happened so quickly. I waxed it before first using the stove and it became foggy after the second day when I went to wash it.

In your case with the glass so new it may be just a coating on it.
It may be something in your water. (calcium,sodium )
