Divide and conquer. You call me a pinko liberal, I call you a conservative Neanderthal, and we both forget what a high proportion of bought-and-paid-for crooks there are in both parties and both branches of congress. Keep the little people fighting among themselves, they say, and they won't see what we really are doing....

I think the mentally sick ones are the ones on either side that refuse to think that their side could do anything wrong & only their way is right.

Good point!

I never intended to make anyone think every conservative is always right and never does anything wrong.

But, the environmentalists supported the Clean Water Act of 1972, and it's 1977 and 1977 amendments. If you have noticed the nations rivers and streams are significantly cleaner than the were in the 1960's. Are you saying those environmentalists were wrong? Are you saying that the environmentalists supporting cleaning up the last century of coal mine drainage are wrong? You paint with too wide a brush. :-)

No, what I'm saying is this new breed of environmentalism is just plain ridiculous. I can't buy a normal gas can anymore. I can't buy a 2-stroke dirt bike anymore (new at least). If my car or truck has a bad converter, I have to spend $500 for a new one, when the vehicle runs & drive perfectly fine! (This is just killing the normal working class people with older vehicles) We are all about to have our utilities skyrocket all in the name of 'saving the earth', during a recession.

Clean water is good, BUT this is ridiculous!!!

The Kennebec River flows through Augusta, Maine, where I grew up. The route Benedict Arnold took to invade Quebec. When I was 10, you had to hold your nose to walk across the bridge 50 feet above the water. Now 50 years later you can almost swim in it, and you can eat fish from it. If you fall in, they don't immediately rush you to the hospital for a lot of shots. The environmentalists were right.

I sat in traffic last week behind a car like I learned to drive in, a 1963 Chevrolet. You know how smells can trigger memories? All of a sudden I was 15 years old again, when every car stunk like that and poured pollution into the air. I can make allowances for that one antique. But I would not like to think of that car's pollution multiplied by the hundreds of millions now on the road. Yeah, it's expensive, and yeah, the burden falls relatively harder on the paid-by-the-hour working man -- that's a whole different conversation that some would call Socialism and some would call economic justice. But the alternative to clean-air regulations would be horrible.

I had asthma in 1973, & I have asthma in 2009??? If the air is so clean, & the environmentalists know it all, why do I still have asthma??? :?:
