Prices vary from home to home, some funeral homes have their own crematory while others transport bodies to & from if your going that way. The vault is much more important than the casket if your doing a direct burial(one with a curved top is much stronger than a flat top) put your money there. You can use the loved ones own favorite dress or suit or anything else you might want them to wear. Most directors will work with the families, if you get one that pushes all the so-called up grades walk out & go elsewhere.

Thanks for the info but don`t think I`ll need it, I told the wife to keep my ashes in the trunk of the car & if she gets stuck on ice to throw me under the tires & I`d bail her out one last time.

My dad was a Vet too, We did get he Vet headstone for his grave. but they didn't cover much in funeral expensenses.
He figured the VA would take care of him when he was sick. Well, they did pay for 99% of his 02 and medications while at home, but if you need hospitalization, they will only keep you up to 90 days unless you are a Disabled Vet, plus the closest VA hospital for us was like 90 miles away.

I think the best thing is to remember the words of Mark Twain who said, "Let us so conduct ourselves, that when it is time for us to die, we can do it"
