I own a EFM 520 and just had the pot worm,pot tube,and bin tube replaced [will replace the bin worm as soon as it comes in ] My question is, I took notice that whenI pull the clean out lever [daily] there is about 25 pieces of full size rice coal laying on top of the fines. I do not see any other unburned coal in the ash bucket . anybody have any ideas why this happends

What year is your 520 do you have the old style goose neck bolted on the bottom of the pot where the Auger & Tube goes
in. If so check for loose bolts and check and see if it is burned out around the lip if so you will need a refurb goose neck
being efm does not make the old style any more . If it is burned out the coal will fall in the ash tube everytime the Auger feeds the coal . If you have the new style pot also check the bolts on the bottom half of the pot to see if they are loose. Also check the rope gaskets . When you replaced the pot auger did you put in a new Pot bushing if not you need to .
Make sure the Pot Auger tube is against the stopper Pin that is in the goose neck on the new & old style Pot there is a shoulder inside to where the tube should be against it .

The unit was installed new in 1983, it is a a model D 520 and it has a square fire door. and yes we did intall a bushing. also when we replaced the bin tube [about 68" long] we replaced it with a piece of two inch pvc pipe; would that have any affect on this problem? and thanks for the help I will check those bolts.

The only thing I can think of is a hole in the burner plate or a hole in the gooseneck elbow. I talked to a man who used a Sch. 40 PVC bin tube for 6 yrs.
