Picked up my new Hitzer 50-93 yesterday. Got it at Hillside Acres stove outlet in quarryville PA. nice folks there. they had the new Hitzer stoker there as well. They also had quite a number of DS machine stoves which I almost went for. I'm hoping that i made the right decision, the DS stoves look very well built.

now i need to plan a run up to Superior for a few tons of nut coal.

I have never used a hand fired myself. Going by everything I have read and heard about a Hitzer, you will not be disappointed. The 50-93 from what I gather is a larger stove and will really crank out the heat. Congrats and good luck. Make sure you let us know how it works out for you, and post some pics if you get a chance.

Sourbeer--

I bought my stove at Hillside Acres, too. Very happy with it. Not sure where you live, but my coal guy (in Honey Brook, PA) now carries Superior nut. Let me know if you want his name or number, if you live close enough to him.

There is a guy in New Holland or Ephrata ( I forget which) that my father in law gets his coal from. He's been very happy with it but I haven't a clue what the source is. If interested I can find out.

When I lived down there I got my coal from Elverson Supply or Charlie Reagel in Birdsboro. Elverson's burned a little better but Charlie was cheaper.

i just brought home a pallet of bagged Blaschak and will probably get another pallet as well for this year. Next year I hope to get a coal bin and buy bulk loose coal but no time this year to mess with any additional projects. The new hitzer is set up on the hearth but still needs stove pipe and a baro damper. I will get that soon enough, still have a couple of months before we'll need any heat. I would be interested in knowing the name of the guy in Honeybrook that carries superior coal.

Dave at Hillside Acres is a great guy. I was there again yesterday. I really like the looks of the DS stoves, sure hope I didn't make a mistake by not getting one of them instead of the Hitzer.

The Hitzer is a better stove, both are good, but the hitzer is heavier. I have Amish friends that own both brands and the door on the DS is warped, the hitzer is twice as old and is still like new.

To be fair though the DS might have been over fired which can be hard on any stove, his wife says no though.

Rest easy, you made a very good choice.

The 'rents have a Hitzer 503 Insert that burned all last winter...
A great stove. No problems.
I have a Mark II that burned coal all last winter...
A great stove. No problems.
I needed a bigger stove to cover the really windy and cold days that the Mark II could keep up with.
Time to shop...
I ended up with a DS Machine Basement #4 New Style Champion...
130,000 btu should keep it nice and toasty.
What I liked about the DS...
130,000 btu
Solid construction
Big firebox, long burns
No fan, no noise
Thermostatic control
Hopper fed
Aggressive Shaker grates
Pricing value

The Hitzer stoves tend to run lower btu outputs than the DS Machine stoves
The Hitzer 503 shaker grates were less aggressive than the Harman.
The Harman Mark II is going to the 'rents basement to heat that up a bit for now.
They really like their Hitzer 503 and will be replacing another small wood burner with a small Hitzer hopper fed in the near future.
Hitzer is a great stove, you have a quality product so do not worry...
You can second guess yourself to death...
So the next stove you get should be a DS Machine Stove...
Along with a bigger house to hold both stoves to do a side by side comparison
