Let me know if you want to sell it, My 97 Cheyenne is getting tired and busted reverse so I've been looking for 2 weeks now. It seems as soon as the clunker deal hit, the dealers stopped dealing. I can't get any better deal than the $3500 they want to give me on a new truck. Since the prices start at close to 30K that’s still not incentive enough (or an affordable enough payment) to get me to buy new.

YEY!!!!

House approves $2 billion "clunker" extension

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090731/bs_ ... s_sales_17

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. House of Representatives approved on Friday a $2 billion extension of the "Cash-for-Clunkers" automobile sales incentive program.

The Democratic proposal would run through September 30, 2010, and tap funds from an Energy Department loan guarantee program included in the economic stimulus package enacted in February.

As Black_and_Blue says, the law of unintended consequences. If you were feeling sorry for those crooks, you can stop now.

Each car dealership is a small business and as such are expected to turn a reasonable profit or go out of business. Anyone who feels they were rooked on a sale have themselves to blame, there are other dealers in your area with which you could do your business. (Caveat : now after a presidential decree there are fewer dealerships and less of a free market.)

Also, your choices of finance affect your experience as well. Dealerships make more in financing then the actual sale of the vehicle. An astute purchaser would use a local credit union or bank and should leave dealer credit sources as a last resort.

That aside, the unintended consequences to which I was referring are yet to reach maturity but rest assured you will bear witness to them.

For starters consider yourself at age 16 with a newly minted drivers license. If you were allowed to have a car of your own, it's likely you could only afford a rusty heap of scrap that at least looked cool. Well, guess what, the once rusty piece of crap car is now worth a minimum of $3500.

Keep hopin' for some change.

ANY communication via the internet can be and has likely been monitored for a long time. It was designed by a government agency after all.

Advanced Research Project Agency : aka (ARPANET)

But I'll agree you can put that Glenn Beck example into the folder for yet another example of unintended consequences.

My wife drives a perfectly good 1997 Honda Accord station wagon, with only 120K miles on it. EPA says it gets 20 mpg. I could trade for a new 30-mpg car, and the dealer would be expected to physically destroy the '97 model. That would be a crime, especially because in reality it gets 29 mpg. IMHO there should be no rebate for a mere 4 mpg increase, only for 10 or more.

I took a 92 Taurus 3.8 V6 with 152k to 3 dealers I was told it does not qualify as a clunker because it list at 18 mpg they all told me must be under 18 mpg to Qualify for the rebate / trade in for a 30mpg Vehicle. I told them maybe in 92 it got 18 mpg but not in 09.What of a Bunch of B.S.

Sure. I can't find a login screen, or reproduce that warning anywhere, on the public facing consumer or dealer side of cars.gov - it almost looks like he's already logged in as a dealer to transmit information.

Look carefully and he's on the dealer section of the the website. Why would a consumer be logging in on the dealer side?

And consumers don't login to cars.gov to participate - they do the program thru a dealer.

Not saying it didn't happen or doesn't exist, but note the brunette thinks this has something to do with "charitable donations" and Glen is too busy trying to work the words "tzar" and "collective" into his conspiracy theory of the cars.gov website existing for the purpose of the government monitoring Skype calls.

The talking heads on both sides just whore themselves for eyeballs and ratings, truth or reality is an accidental byproduct.

The local Ford dealer has taken in 47 cars for reabte. Now they're told the average dealer might only get paid for seven? That's gonna hurt,

Actually, by data mining dealership computer networks who participate in the C.A.R.S. program, anyone in town who has done business with that dealer in the past will have their records compromised.

Things that car dealer computers remember include, the original loan and financial records, all maintenance repairs such as warranty work and recall notice completions, and most certainly mileage odometer readings.

Of course the State DMV and your bank have some of these records too but what an easy way to tie them together and provide verifiable data on you without raising the suspicion of the general public.

When the Government gets around to taxing you by the mile, perhaps then you may begin to see a bigger picture.

Funny you mention Ford because they didn't play ball by taking bailout cash. This turned out to be a wise move as we have witnessed the Presidency inserting itself into GM and Chrysler affairs. Historically, Ford has been a thorn in the side for government socialists.

Famous quote of the day :

"It is well enough that people of the nation do not understand our banking and monetary system, for if they did, I believe there would be a revolution before tomorrow morning."

Sounds like they are infusing another 2 or 3 billion to get the clunkers off the road......My 1990 Chev 2500 got about 13 MPG, my 05 2500(6 liter) gets 10.2 according to the computer; my friends with 09's (6 liter) get 10.0. Is WTF a good statement here?
A Tri-axle gets 5 MPG hauling 80K loads.....
TT units with 550 hp get 5 to 6 MPG....

Our kids will be paying for this "economic" stimulus....grandchildren too. Thanks for nothing!!!! :x

If I handed them billions to save their a**es, to get them out of a jam they're in because they're such irresponsible f*ckups, then I would insert myself into their affairs, too.

So we are rewarding the most irresponsible among us, who bought the worst gas guzzlers, by giving them rebates. And those who bought reasonable cars in the first place are out of luck.

Technically possible but Preacher Glen & his choir were saying this will happen to consumers by logging in to the cars.gov website.

Which is simply not true.

Provide URL for the login screen he supposedly had, on a public-facing portion of the cars.gov website, and I'll believe.
