bulk coal

trying to find bulk coal delivered in southern NH at a good price. anyone know?

if you want a truckload of 22 tons or so, I can set it up

Coal delivery is really no different than general frieght to a trucking co. If you want bulk, just contact a local trucing co. with a triaxle and price the round trip to the breaker of your choice. If the price is $800 for the truck divided by 23 ton load just add $34.78 per ton to your coal price at the breaker. At Superior at $160 plus $34.78 = $194.78 too your house. Same for bagged, (except coal price) only the truck would be pulling a flat bed trailer with palleted shrink wrapped 1-1 1/4 ton lots. If you have the capability to handle it on your end. Bulk just needs a clean pad to dump on, and of course a fork truck or skid loader with pallet forks for the bagged load. I'm in Western Pa just south of Pittsburgh. There are 3 of us running stokers here, 2 keystoker 90 and 1 Koker. We are giving serious consideration to splitting a bulk load of superior. I have been driving my dually pulling 5 tons home in a gooseneck trailer. I spend $150.00 for fuel / 5 tons so it ends up same same, $190.00 I'm thinking save the personal grief and get the big load slit up.

That may be true for bulk coal deliveries within PA. But is not true for deliveries to another state. Most local tri-axles companies, large or small, frequently only have tags for in-state hauling. I tried to find a tri-axle for delivery to MD. Neither Penn Coal or I could find a trucker willing to do it. Tractor trailer yes, but no tri-axles. I'm not saying it can't be done but it's hard to find. You likely would have to find a trucking company regularly hauling stone between your state and PA.

It will be very difficult to find a tri axle that is apportioned all the way to New Hampshire.

Sorry, I did noy consider interstate transport. I am just so accustomed to seeing these coal buckets running around home here in western pa

Maybe somewhere there is a truckers forum looking for back hauling loads.
My guess the objection comes from having to deliver to a private residence
and all the coordination that it takes to get it done.
Someone home, level ground. soft ground,overhead trees, etc.

I used to haul prosessed sand and crushed stone in a frame type dump trailer. I found that so long as the trailer wheels are level and on firm ground you can safely dump the load even if the tractor is off at an angle in relation to the trailer. It won't be as stable as it would be if everything was straight and level but stable enough to get the job done, carefully. It comes down to the judgement of the driver. Some drivers are not willing to dump unless conditions are near perfect. If you want it dumped somewhere less than perfect you had best talk about it with the person who will be bringing the load before the deal is ever finalized. You would be in a real pickle if he shows up and says he can't dump the load! With a frameless the whole unit (tractor and trailer) needs to be perfectly straight and level or forget about it. Of course with any dump truck you can't have overhead obstructions. The longer the trailer the higher the body goes. The longer the body the more level it needs to be. When I had my coal delivered I hired a triaxle because the place I had to put the coal would be ackward for even a framed dump trailer. (I could of done it but I couldn't expect another driver to take the risk.) The body was sized for dirt which is heavier than coal by volume. The load was only 18 tons when full, which boosted the cost per ton. The trucking cost me $1100 plus $140 per ton for the nut. They had qouted me $1000 for the load but then presented me with a bill for $1200 at time of delivery because it took longer than they thought. We compromised on $1100. After that I'm not sure if I would use them again. I heard that the triaxles that are set up for coal have larger bodies so they can haul more tons per load but I wasn't able to find one. That's why I hired a CT truck rather than one from PA. I hope my experience will be helpful.

I have been getting TT loads of bulk for 37 years and understand that you cannot ask any responsible truck driver to dump his trailer unless the site is essentially flat. If you can't understand the concept, then don't call for bulk coal.
If is not reasonable for you to expect a tri-axle driver hauling gravel or stone to chance flopping his load, and TT units are LOOOOONG and top heavy. Wires, tree limbs, adjacent buildings, ditches, blah, blah, blah.

If you as a customer order the load and didn't take into account the restrictions, you are still liable for the shipment.
Use your head, cover your stump before you .......! If anyone needs to get together for this fall and wants folks to share in load costs, let's get together...SOON! I have 3 loads scheduled in Oct....all bulk. PM me if you like.

is there a demand in new hampshire that would warrent a business start up for supplying bulk coal.?
