Question about 2005 Kodiak

Alaska Kodiak

PostBy: WhereisWareMA? On: Wed Nov 29, 2006 4:03 pm

Local stove dealer wants $1000.00 for Alaska Kodiak 2005 left over. I can find no price comparison anywhere online. Does anyone have info on whether this is a decent deal? I need to retire my old "Riteway" do to safety concerns.
Thanks Dan

WhereisWare: I'm pretty sure this is a stoker feed stove right?? I saw a few of these on ebay a few months ago. Almost ANY used stoker sold for around $800, so a NEW left-over stove with [hopefully] a warantee for $1000 is a good deal.

Does the stoker unit come into the firebox from the side?? I think the main change from the old to the new models is that the stoker enters the firebox from the rear, giving a nicer [centered] view of the fire on the grate through the front door's window.

If this stove is what you need, I'd go for it. You certainly won't find a new stove for less.

I looked on the Alaska Stove site, and the Kodiak shown there has a gravity hopper feed, is the 2005 model like this?? Either with an electric motor powered stoker or a gravity feed, it sounds like a good deal.

Here is a used stoker stove on ebay, at $860 right now, hasn't met reserve yet.

This link is broken, either the page no longer exists or there is some other issue like a typo.

Thanks for the input and info Greg. The Alaska is gravity fed. I also checked out the Harman Stoker on Ebay. Nice stove but I've got 3tons of nut coal in my cellar  . I'm thinking I'll make an offer on the Alaska but its pretty hard to part with the cash when its been 60 degrees in here in Massachusetts. I let you know how I make out.
Thanks again
Dan

Dan It's going to be in the 30's next week!! Make that offer before the temperature drops!! :)

The Hitzer gravity fed, nut coal stoves start at around $1500 plus shipping. So I think the price is pretty good.

By the way Dan, I moved your post to it's own thread so it may get more attention. I was expecting some Kodiak owners to comment.

Good luck. Greg L
