Suggest a Topic for "Best of"

PostBy: Richard S. On: Fri Aug 14, 2009 7:10 pm

Any older topics that have been buried, you have found to be a lot of help, frequently referenced or think belong in this forum let us know and we'll move it here. One thing to note is if the topic is still active it will be left in the original place. Typically we use this forum to bring really good threads back to life that have slipped into oblivion such as ones that have fallen way down list after many months of inactivity. There's a lot of good information on this forum and we try and use this forum as a way to make sure many of the more informative topics don't get lost.

How about coal hopper designs for those of us who have to load and haul their coal in pails into the house daily from outside.

Sierra, what I use this forum for is for old topics that get buried so we can give them a second life. You can go back a few years and find a lot of stuff that not many people will ever see. Generally speaking if there hasn't been activity for a few weeks in thread and you think it might belong here because it contains a lot of good information you can suggest It get moved here.

Would there be interest in some of the very common things that "guys" use all the time (?) like:
What's the best (or your favorite)
Garden tractor
Snow blower
Lawn Mower
Or simpler items like.....
Hand tool brand
Spray lubricant
House Paint
Furniture finish

Regular old everyday "stuff"

I don't know if this is the proper forum for this , but I would like to see a permanent topic of "What changes I would like to see in my stove" and " What changes I have made"

Another topic I would like to see is " Stove Design" your ideas. Another topic, "Antique Stoves, Your Experience"

Let me try and explain again what this forum and topic is for. :)

Occasionally topics pop up that have very long discussions with a lot good information. Eventually they get no replies and slowly get pushed down the list until they are buried. The reason for this forum is to bring those back to life so all that good information isn't on page 24 where people are rarely going to find it. If there is any topics like that you know of post it here or send a PM to mod or myself and we'll consider it.

It's too general, we try and keep stickies to a minimum as they clutter the place up. Having said that feel free to start any topics you want.

How about the most commonly asked questions. Assume that someone new to coal came here for the first time to set-up or to get into burning coal.
1. Flue / chimeny info

2. Is coal dirty? Most people think of a black sooty mess when they here the word coal.

3. Coal pricing

4. Whats a clinker?

5. Selecting the right stove.

6. How do you empty the ash w/o making a mess?

7. Coal quality/ different brands.

8. different sizes of coal.

9. Bituminous ins and outs?.....Idono...

10. interest in sharing a trailer load of coal.

11. coal bin gallery?

I personally like the thread that I started about what coal burners do for a living.
I found it interesting to see what a wide range of people and talent that frequent this site. It would be nice to keep that thread going.

Since there are many here that use antique stoves, I wouldn't mind a sticky for that in the hand fired catagory. Also a sticky for the videos that have been posted so that they can be easily found by new comers.

I'd like to see Running off of generators or inverters moved to the "Best of" section. It contains a lot of good discussion by some very knowledgeable people on selecting a backup power supply.
