I've added the following sub forums to "News, Politics and General Interests":

Food and Recipes

Sports, Entertainment, Movies and TV

Hobbies, Hunting, Fishing and Camping

Cars and Trucks

House and DIY Projects

Some of the topics form the General Community forum have been moved there.

Richard, while add additional forums might get minor additional interest I don't think any of them will grow the way the coal forum has. I would suggest trying to grow the forum and your technical skills in a related but different area. Education. We have a lot of very knowledgeable people on the forum; some myself included would make good teachers. What's missing is a method to provide it in an interactive internet based way. What's needed is a way for an instructor to be able to lecture from prepared slides using audio to describe the slide. The audio would then be broadcast to the viewers. There needs to be some feedback mechanism from students. Ideally audio, but perhaps some form of instant messaging would do. Ideally again, the instructor could also annotate his slides in real time as he/she lectures. Like you see on TV with some sportscaster illustrating a football play with a crude pointer. Sure there are a lot of technical issues to solve, transmission path bandwidth and server capability but I think it's a idea that might take off. Similar technical issues were obstructions when UTube started and who would have guessed how successful they would be.

Yanche if I could build something like that I wouldn't be mucking around with this forum. :D

There's probably something available. I'll keep it in the back of mind but I'm not going to look now or I'll end up on a two week odyssey looking at different stuff. :P

-------------------

You could do that with what I have set up now but you would need to set the presentation up first. For example you'd set up a simple HTML slide show with links at the bottom.... image 1, image 2, image 3,etc. They could connect through the vent server we use for Coalcast and you'd be able to communicate over that. Only trouble with ventrilo server is that it only supports 10 people and by the documentation unless you want license for 1000+ they don't even want to talk to you... You could do a live broadcast but through the icecast server but that is only one way...
