Senator Kennedy Dies At Age 77

Even though I didn't agree with a lot of his decisions, it's still sad.

Politics aside, remember he was directly responsible for the drowning death of a young woman. He should have stood trial for what he did, instead he walked away and went on with his life.

But Kennedy's own aspirations for the White House were dashed in 1969 when his car plunged off a bridge on Chappaquiddick on Martha's Vineyard, killing Robert Kennedy campaign aide Mary Jo Kopechne. Kennedy swam to safety and only alerted authorities to the accident hours later.

An investigation later absolved Kennedy of responsibility. He received two months suspended jail time for leaving the scene of an accident

You or I would have served jail time. The "elites" live by a different set of rules.

Condolences for the Kennedy family...
He has done evil and he has done good...
I leave it up to his God to determine his fate...
Hopefully Vicki will stand in his place till a special election can be held in 5 months.
I do not think the MA politics moved quick enough to change back the rule about the Governor appointing a new Senator.
Karma for Ted's politics!
Traffic will be a Bitch!
At least BO is close by...
He should have taken that earlier meeting...
What a media circus this will be!

Absolutely! Then continued to get votes for nearly 5 decades. Just amazing how that family can do no wrong in the eyes of the media....

I vote Mary Jo Kopechne as his replacement. She's more capable than any politician on Beacon Hill, & will probably get more done!

Thanks for the warning. My TV will remain OFF for the rest of the week......

Looks like they will name UHC bill after him. Going for the sympathy vote? They are going to ride this for all its worth, the politics never stop.

WASHINGTON — Democratic US lawmakers mourning Senator Edward Kennedy vowed Wednesday to honor the liberal lion's memory by passing President Barack Obama's embattled health care overhaul this year.

But outside experts warned that Kennedy's death, though sure to renew Democratic passion for the plan, did little to alter the political realities that have battered Obama's chief domestic priority.

"Ted Kennedy?s dream of quality health care for all Americans will be made real this year because of his leadership and his inspiration," Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in a statement.

I am not sad to see that manslaughtering, pompous, bloviating, silver spoon child of privileged bootlegging elitists gone. Good riddance. His and his family's net service to mankind was minimal.

I will, however, pray for his spiritual salvation. He'll need it.

It is sad, death always is. As far as his politics, in the final analysis this guy did way more good than harm.
As far as the car accident and the bungling of the after math, yes he screwed up. Would we have done time in the same
circumstances? No, probably not.
From a personal point of view, his loss is a huge hit to MASS. Love him or hate him, his political prowess and power were
a huge asset to the Commonwealth. He will be missed.
The righty spin doctors will have to find another target for their ire. I suspect that Obama and Hillary are big enough
targets to absorb that which was expended on Teddy.

Amen.

I was watching some show last night about him and they were talking about all the legislation he either led or was otherwise closely involved in:

_ National Cancer Act.

_ Title IX.

_ Pregnancy Discrimination Rights.

_ Voting Rights extension.. Did you vote at age 18? Thank Teddy.

_Disability Rights.

_ Americans with Disability act

_FMLA

_Violence against Women act

_Mental Health Parity act.

This is just the short list. And some people think he didn't do anything but have a car wreck which resulted in an unfortunate death.

That "unfortunate death", as you so forgivingly put it, revealed Teddy's true character and the propensity of his family to abuse power flagrantly. With all that abused power, how can we ever say that we can be certain all those laws you cite were the will of the people and not just the whim of the Kennedy's?

Ted was an Amercian tragedy on three levels: MaryJo Kopechne did not receive justice on an individual basis, an institution the Kennedy's claim to champion. The corruption of Massachussetts politics enabled this criminal to attain high office, a travesty to our constitutional republic. The power of family wealth that was derived from criminal activity triumphed over the Constitution.

He represented all that we should reject in American politicians. He was a national embarrassment.

Coincidentally the cemetery where Mary Jo is buried is only about a mile from my Grandmother's house.
