Any one here ever get sleep paralysis?? Its when You are wide awake but you cant move or open your eyes!! There are many variables with the symptoms. (such as feeling chest pressure, feeling as if you are being watched or if someones in the same room as you) The first time it ever happened it freaked me out so much. Then I read about it and found out it is an actual harmless genetic disorder. (As long as you are not sleepwalking) Its where your mind is awake but your body is not!!! I heard the tv on and my air conditioner and I was trying to scream to snap out of it but I couldnt. I mean my mind was W I D E awake! It is extremely freaky. Its also called the hag phenomenom. Now when it happenes to me I try to see how long I can stay in that state without waking up.... :?

Have you been using any new drugs? I'm serious.... after my back surgery I tried several different drugs for pain control. One of them was a drug called Lyrica (sp?) It's used for other things but sometimes helps with back pain. The Dr said to use it for at least 7 days, ignoring side effects, that after a week or two they should go away. On day 6, during the night, my sick Mom was calling for help. I woke but couldn't move. I was facing the bedroom door. I saw my wife get up, heard her speak to Mom & saw her go down the hall to get meds for Mom. I saw her come back and turn to my Mom's room. The entire time I was trying to move, trying to scream, I could not. It was perhaps 45 seconds and finally I "broke free". I never used Lyrica again. It was not fun.

Sleep Paralysis is one of several sleep disorders. You need to see a doctor who specializes in sleep disorders, probably will need to have an overnight sleep study done.

I usually got those symtoms when the kids were under 2 years old, and they started crying at night. I was miraculously cured seconds later, after my wife got up to tend to them :D :D :D ;) ;) ;)

:D

It happened to me maybe twice, abbout 10 years apart. I attributed it to sort of a concious nightmare as there had been high stress that day or the day before. I thought it just a rare circumstance of the mind vs body. I would think if someone has a consistant eppisode of these issues there is a problem that needs to be diagonoised.

Mom had two sleep studies done for apnea and as I recall they were like 6 grand each. for someone to watch you sleep!! :o

I do recall the profound feeling of fear during that concious period of awareness yet frozen bodily, thought I had died 8-)

I experienced that a few times before I was 20. I know what it feels like. SUX. I think your body produces hormones to help you sleep which are quickly flushed out when you wake up, amazing.

As for the hag syndrome, that also defines the kind of girlfriend I always end up with...

I hope none of you guys are piloting any aircraft I'm on !!!!!! I'm getting scared to be on the roadways, too.

The sleep disorder is caused by too many years of the 'Hag Syndrome' in your relationships, however it occurs independently as a medical condition also.

Too much time on the forum late at night while 'snortin' anthracite dust or smokin' the anthracite fired hookahs.(sp)
Stoker Scott developed this condition while in his Anthra-dust powered submarine in Lake George. We must have Oxygen to keep our brains active....well, some of us need it. :dancing: :crutch: :secret: :nana: :hammer: :alone:

PS: 48 degrees here at 06:00. Stoke her up again, freddy?

They do say that it does happen more often when you are under stress, or a change in sleeping patterns, or not enough sleep. Also Freddy you are right on! Certain drugs can bring it on as well. I usually get it on and off for a week. Then I'll go about a year before it happens again. Oddly enough for me It only happens when I sleep on my back !!

Is that what it's called? I never looked it up, but it happens to me every couple of months or so. I've experienced it for probably 20 years. I've gotten so used to it that once I tell myself to stop panicking and just ride it out, it's actually kind of fun. I usually fall back to sleep for a bit and then wake up a little while later just fine.
