Another Internet Explorer question

Another Internet Explorer question

PostBy: LsFarm On: Sun Dec 03, 2006 2:18 pm

When I open some pages on this forum, the text and page are wider than the window for internet explorer. But this is selective, not on all pages. Or only from certain members' posts.

Is there a way to make the text fit the window [sentences wrap and be the right length for the page width]

Even my own posts seem to do this at times. ??

What screen resolotion are you using? Most likely there is a link in a post that is longer than the width of screen. Possibly for one with 3 or more attachemnts? By default it should be no longer than the width of your monitor unless the content exceeds that. Long links should be reduced with a ... in the middle.

Can you give me an example of which post?

BTW you have no control over how pages are displayed.

My experience is that'll happen when people post pics. If there are three pics posted side by side.....the text will extend far and you'll have to use your left-right scrollbar to read a post.

It doesn't break for me at all but I'm using a monitor with a very high resolution. I've tested it with smaller resolutions but not for every circumstance, if someone can provide me with a link to apost where it does it I can fix it for all posts. :)

My thread titled 'remote thermometer' is doing this. I have to scroll to the right about 1" to real full sentences. I don't think it was this way when I first posted .

My screeen is set to my maximum 1024x768.

If someone else is posting with a higher resolution setting, will his/her post be wider ??

I was hoping that I could adjust this, but it sounds like I'm stuck with the too wide pages when they occur.

The 'tell me it was worth it' thread is NOT too wide, and I posted on it several times.

I'm going to see if the 'problem' follows certain member's posts.

My screen resolution is 1280 x 1024. I compose using my e-mail client, Thunderbird, so I can use my spell checker. Then, copy all and paste into the coal forum reply window.

That would be Yanche with his big giant long URL, as you can see this thread will now break to the right.

Eaxmple (this will only cause theis problem if you're below 1280x960):

Coincidentally I just PM'd him about this out of curiosity, he wasn't aware the forum automatically handles URL's by itself. I didn't notice it again because I using a monitor with a very large resolution. So is he so it wouldn't be apparent to him either. BTW when you post a very long URL normally it will also shorten the displayed text so the that doesn't happen, like this, notice the three dots in the middle:

http://www.analog.com/UploadedFiles/Ass ... Fsect7.PDF

Anyhow as I mentioned above if it's breaking to the right that will be caused by any content that exceeds the available space such as a very long word or image that that is being displayed full size...
