Any ideas on making the chimney wind proof? The wind blows fierce here from the south in winter and I'll have to be pretty high because far from the peak.

If your talking about a S.S. they make roof braces & chimney support kits for hight chimneys for high wind areas .
do a Google search.

Had a big Hitzer 50-93 in Cleveland. Found that burning house air made us feel bad. Installed outside airfeed and we had a tropical paradise inside! Sit around in your underwear when its -5 outside for $5 a day!

coalkirk: that stove is small but with everything off and the firebricks out it took three men to carry it in! Lots of steel and cast iron in it.

Yeah, nice new one - seems lot's better. Machined off high spot to fit glass. Tempted to put sealer in there anyhow to have total control. I like to be able to shut my stove off, not linger because of leaks.

The glass should have flat channel gasket on it self glue pull paper off fold the channel over the edge of the glass .
The door itself should have a rope gasket inside the door channel. If there is no channel then use the flat gasket around
the door frame. The ash door should have one to around the frame or in the ash door channel . If there is no gasket
on the glass put some on it you want a air tight seal on everything make sure the hopper lid as a gasket inside the lid.

We have sensitive respiratory tracts. Have noticed that using house air to burn really bothers us. Used outside air feed before with great results and its a refinement that works great especially in a new house with tight joints - makes a positive draft situation. Oxygen is denser in cool air. Never had a problem with the air feed blowing off and have always secured the stove pipe with screws.

Where do I get the gasket paper? Rather use that than sealer incase glass ever breaks so don't have to scrap sealer. Other surfaces have the ropey type :)

What I am talking about is the flat stove gasket with the glue aready on it you pull the paper backing off and stick it around the glass edge it has a channel in the middel to fit nice around the glass edge It is called Flat channel stove gasket
it is made for wood & coal stove & stokers glass. Your D.S. stove should of had it on from the Factory All stove Companies
use it that is how the glass is sealed around the door frame with out it it is not a air tight stove .
