If you are wondering, then maybe you should have. I have alot of deliveries from the local lumber yard and they really go the extra to get the stuff where it will work out best. You don't have to tip much. Something is better than nothing. They will let you know if it's not all right. :) Scott

I gave mine a lump of coal. ;)

I''d say it's not expected. It seems to me, food delivery, yes, but others, no. Do we tip UPS drivers?

My first delivery, last year, I tipped the delivery guy. He was a "delivery guy", not the owner of the company. This year, I got it from a different place, and the owner was the guy who delivered it. I didn't tip him. I figured, the owner is already making money off the coal sale. But a delivery guy is bustin' his butt for his pay, and deserves a tip.

I tip all major delivery guys. The Coal guy got $20 after filling my bin, then he swepped up! Concrete delivery guy got $20 after the pour was done and he washed all my tools! UPS, Fed-ex, USPS all get a xmas card with $20 in it.

If the kid is skilled enough to back a quad axle tanker into my narrow driveway....

I stick a cold 6 pack of Pepsi in the drivers door while he is unloading.

Never did get many tips when I was delivering even when I started as the "helper". Mostly from older women. :D Don't get no ideas when I say older I mean like senior citizen old. the tips dried up for myself after my Uncle retired but that was expected and I really wasn't expecting them at that point anyway

My suggestion would be if you have some young guy doing all the work you might want to consider tipping him, probably not making much at all and he'll certainly appreciate it. Be sure to not let the owner know it. I never took tips from anyone that worked for me and would even give them my tip if we both got tipped but I've known some who would take half.

They will remember you as a gentleman if you tip. It could be a bottle of water on a hot day...a place to wash your hands, an available bathroom, a cup of coffee...... all these work too. Cash is good in all cases, and some guys like the gift certificate to a restaurant, of a cash card. No, a lump of coal isn't very nice! Funny, but not nice. Helping them out or cleaning up is a good way to say thanks too. toothy :dancing: :pepsi:

I tip the trash guys a few times in the winter, they do remove 75-90lbs of ash per week! And they don't report me for putting out so much garbage. :D

I tip the Kid that helps me shovel into my bin every year, And last year the weight ticket was 600#s of extra coal at no charge. I feel that if you tip, it will always pay off in one way or another.

My bin in long ways to the basement window. The guy and his kid had to push alot of coal to the other end. Was hot out and they worked hard getting it full. So I gave each $20 , the guy couple cold ones and the kid a coke.

Ahh the memories, I used to be that kid. There was one house we went to that took 12 ton a year. Every piece of coal had to be shoveled to other side of bin. 24,000 lbs, take me about 1.5 hours. :flex:

Tipped Bob a couple of frosty ones (returning the favor of a few when I visited his shop earlier). He's the owner/operator, but also someone I've known personally for a few years.

I concur on tipping the employee some cash, but not the owner. Same thing for barbers.
